Dalton Sneed? And stuff.

I don’t think Cam graded out as good as some might think. He made some dangerous passes and quick one read throws without looking. A good D would have had at least 1 or 2 picks.
Speculation.

I agree with you. Humphrey played very well.

EWU’s defensive front was pretty good in the first half. Making reads & dealing with guys trying to put you on the ground isn’t like throwing seven-on-seven in practice. First game where he was the guy holding down the spot from the kickoff, & yes it wasn’t perfect, but all in all, they achieved the goal which is going 1-0 for the week.

Some of Sneed's throws were into very tight windows and took serious effort by the receivers to get the ball. It the defenders would have been looking they could easily have picks too. So many if's that you can only really judge by the outcome and whether luck or skill, CH's results were great for his first start. I can only speculate that he will continue to get even better.

I don't recall any ill-advised throws. Perhaps I missed them or forgot. Making a throw to a receiver who is running a pattern that will have the defender not looking at the qb or at the ball is an important skill for a qb. Often, a defender playing man coverage is looking at his man and away from the qb, so recognizing the coverage right away is always important.

Show me where I used the term "ill-advised". The throw to JLM at the corner of the end zone near the goal line could easily have turned out differently IF the defender had been able to turn his head. Same for Akem's catch. Very accurate but very tight also. Anyone can play the "If game" all day but all we know is what the result was.

I thought he played really well. Just in the little I have seen him I think he is going to be really good next year. He seems smart, poised and he is more mobile that I thought. He hasn't played much in tight games since he has been here which in my opinion makes his performance even more impressive. Griz rushed for 254 yards which is awesome. I think PSU has a better rush defense so he will have to make more plays with his arm this week. And I think he will.

No they don't. I predict Griz get 175+ yards on the ground.

PSU would seem to have a pretty good rushing defense, if you just look at the NCAA stats. They’re like #16, giving up about 108.6 ypg. But if you dig a little deeper, you realize that their rush D has not really been tested … because it’s pretty easy to pass on them. They rank #90 in passing yards allowed, giving up 252.7 ypg.

We watched their game against Northern Colorado, which was played in a pretty stiff breeze for most of it. The wind clearly had an impact (negative) on the passing games, so both teams ran a lot. The Bears are not exactly an offensive powerhouse (#89 at 342.4 ypg in Total Offense). But in addition to 300 yards passing, NoColo put 197 yards of rushing on PSU. That’s 85 yards more than they normally get, on average.

The stats after PSU has played 9 games says they are a way better defense than Eastern especially rushing defense. Best rushing defense in Big Sky statistically (rushing per game). Idaho didn't score against them and Arkansas only scored 20. This is a pretty good team the Griz are playing this week. I still think Griz will win but it is going to be a tough contest. https://bigskyconf.com/stats.aspx?path=football&year=2019

What do the stats look like it you remove the D2 and NAIA teams they played?

Is there any news on Dalton Sneed for the PSU game? With a running back like Knight, an athlete like Graves, and JLM and Sulser in the backfield, would a wildcat be something worth trying? Seems like an interesting twist. Just a thought.
You mean the MSU offense? Brilliant! The play selection last week seemed just fine. Let us know when Sulser is available.

Well, we actually have an offense with a QB! They don’t know what that is over there. Just as a package or two! Not a regular “I don’t know what to do with or how develop a QB!” Like Choake does! I was thinking more of Miami’s Ron Brown wildcat!

Considering Sac is the only FCS team to hold us under 30 points so far, I think "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here. :twocents:

BINGO!

I see rocklobster has been reading the award winning book.... Playing .500 Ball

Oh, so you’ve read that too! Dick!

Keep in mind their league opponents. NAU and ISU are the only teams at .500. Everyone else (Idaho, SUU, UNC) has abysmal records.UM played a much more difficult full D1 schedule. UM has played only 1 common opponent: ISU. ISU blew out PSU.

That being said, PSU is always a tough out. This one should be interesting....

I posted this on Brint’s scouting report thread:

ISU ran for 166 and put up 505 total yards against them
SUU's backs ran for 115 in just 25 carries, 4.6 ypc
Idaho's backs got 80 in 22 carries (but their QB's lost 41 in 5 sacks)
Northern Colorado rushed for 197 and averaged 6 ypc. Put up right at 500 yards offense
NAU had 88 in 19 attempts, a 4.63 ypc average

So, it's not necessarily our running game per se that I'm worried about...it would appear on the surface they get to the QB quite frequently, but digging a little deeper you see its not necessarily true so much against FCS competition (0 against ISU, 0 against SUU, 1 against UNC, 1 against NAU)

They are not a great run defense. It’s the magic of cumulative statistics...Teams (hell, very very mediocre teams) have run very well against them. And mediocre teams have put up massive offensive yardage numbers against them.

I would imagine that PSU will use their flex D to stack up against the run. CH in just his second start, will have to show them that he can win the game with accurate passing. If he throws completions our WRs should have a field day as they can make single coverages look silly. I would assume that he spent sometime this week on developing a little lighter "touch" on his shorter throws as that was really the only thing I felt he was behind in in the passing game. Based on what I saw last week CH will do just fine. We are lucky to have him.
