Dahlberg Arena memories

I saw Jethro Tull at Dahlberg Arena. Awesome concert!

I was at that concert as well...what was it 1977?...I think so. One of the best concerts I've ever attended.

Yep, it was either '76 or '77. For some reason, I have a few memory gaps in those years.

My earliest memories of Dahlberg date back to when I was 11 and went to the class A state basketball tournament to cheer on Fort Benton in 1980. Their first round was against Columbia Falls which was ranked number 1 all year long and was undefeated. Fort Benton beat them pretty soundly the first round and then played Lewistown in the semifinals. Future griz Allen Powell hit something like 12 free throws in a row to beat them. Lewistown played Browning the following night and ran into a buzzsaw. Browning won its first state title that year. Their second 5 off the bench probably could have won state. They were coached by ex griz player Don Wetzel. Fort Benton beat Columbia Falls again in the consolation game. I remember being amazed by the size and intimacy of Dahlberg.

I should say that the following year, state basketball was at Brick Breeden in Bozeman. I remember being in awe of the size of that complared to Dahlberg. However, it did not have the intimacy and proximity to the action that Dahlberg did.
