D-lline shift

How many times did Liberty get a false start penalty yesterday when our defensive line shifted? That has to be tough as an O-line man not to move when the whole dline moves in front of you. Does anyone know if part of the reason for the shift is to try and get the Offense to jump? I am not sure how much crowd noise was the cause of it. I did not think it seemed that loud although I was in the NEZ yelling so I could not hear yelling over me.

Yes... for penalties.

But more because it makes the O-line adjust their blocking scheme two seconds before the snap.

I know it makes it hard for the Oline to adjust, just wondering why more teams dont shift around more.

Didn't the Griz get a "Delay of Game" penalty on the defense, no less? This for doing the defensive line shifts. I've never seen that before; a "Delay of Game" against the defense. I mean, the defense doesn't really have to break huddle if they don't want to.

I've witnessed it before, but you are right it is pretty rare. Usually happens when the defense is simulating the snap count or If they moving around with the only intent being to get the offense to jump.

The penalty was delay of game for "disconcerting signals". One of the linebackers or d linemen were apparently barking out signals, trying to emulate the Liberty QB and trick the o line into jumping. Don't think it had anything to do with the d line shifting...they can move all they want as long as they aren't in the neutral zone when the ball is snapped.

yes. i think it is also called 'delay of game' by the officials.

Defense delay of game comes when the defense simulates the snap count and causes a false start. Guess that's what they must've done.
