Learfield Sports is the advertising problem.

Ticket prices are out of control. I'm single and make a good living; I'll pay. But a family of four on a "Missoula" income. I hope someone is thinking about prices, and not simply how to extract the most money out of the fans as possible.

The pregame is terrible. Just dreadful. As is the music for the most part.

I think we have to get the huge football "bureaucracy" of staff to be thinned down so we don't have to make so much money to survive as a program. There is such waste and none of these staff can play music? Learfield has killed our atmosphere plain and simple. Music is what gets players and fans going and we have very little of it. How about a new song? Even that stupid "Gangnon Style" would have been more fun and current than what we have to listen to now.

Agree 100% with both grizphan and crackgina. Learfield has been a complete debacle for the Griz in terms of atmosphere and ways to get more people interested in Griz athletics.

Hopefully there's some push to dump Learfield as soon as the contract with them is up... anyone know how long that contract is?

I'd guess corporate revenues to UM athletic dept have significantly increased due to Learfield advertising. Is it worth it? If not, what should be sacrificed when revenues decline?

Ummmm....the bureaucracy I posted about earlier?!? Why can't a hard-working staff member pick up all the corporate sponsors we have and wean them down and charge a smaller number more so atmosphere improves and ad dollars remain the same? I would want my ad money to be noticed more with less individual advertisers and less saturation?

Funny, Coke with a Smile was in the row right in front of me.. no one wanted the shirts, no one wanted any part of being in the advertisement. Also, student section.. ENOUGH with the wave while we're on offense.. for F sakes, learn how to be college football fans.

You are just a few rows in front of me and I got the impression that the Coke shirts were more of a distraction than anything for the people in that row. Did you notice how many empty seats were behind you for the entire second half? Embarrassing.

Back to the crowd....I noticed that as NAU was beginning their comeback/take over of the 2nd half, the Griz fans would start to get loud and try to pump the team up.......that being said, maybe the players should worry less about pumping up the crowd and more on tackling....i watched one player keep waving his arms at the NEZ the entire timeout (after the delay of game was waved off) then when NAU snapped the ball, they ran right over his flat footed arm tackle..........players need to be pumped up, they came out 1st half pretty jacked up, 2nd half was like they were leaving a funeral, flat emotionless un-coached team leads to 2nd half butt kicking not the crowd noise.

I agree. At one point, people next to me and I said almost at the same time "Stop cheerleading and start playing." Chicken and egg. Does the crowd get loud because the team's playing well or does the team play well because the crowd is loud? I lean toward the former, think that fans really overestimate their influence on the game, and that maybe the Griz have become too dependent on crowd noise (as evidenced by players taking pre-snap time and concentration time to pump-up the crowd).

I've never been a fan of any player flapping their arms around like big bird, trying to get the fans' attention. It's actually insulting, like I'm not going to scream my head off if nobody's flapping their wings? Bullshit. If you play football and you flap your arms around, you look like an idiot. To me it just says, hey that guy isn't even focused. It closely parallels the self adulation guys after a nice play, the hey...look at me everybody. But then again, it's just my opinion.

I agree. I want to see that guy focused on his assignment, not on what I'm doing in the stands.

geeze guys. you need to regroup and take a step back. now we're bashing kids for "flapping" their arms asking for noise?!
it's a game. it's supposed to be fun. a kids busts his ass off year round to play this game and if he makes a good play, scores a td, or tries to pump up the crowd more power to him. guess this is just that mindset that us fat fans in the stands have the right to scream, jump up and down, high five, dance in the aisles, taunt the other team, call for noise, etc. etc. etc......but the kids actually busting theis ass are supposed to just go about business......

p.s....if you guys really think that players raising their hands before the ball is snapped means thet aren't focussed or will cause them to be tired.....i'm sorry. jared allen seemed and seems to do just fine. and countless others. but i guess he's just a moron. that or a guy busting his ass and having a ball playing a game that every single person on this board wishes he could still be playing. :?

They were a distraciton.. and all the same size, which was too small for most in that row. It was funny, they picked the row that had about the fewest amount of people in it. I didn't notice the empty seats behind me.. I typically don't ever look behind me unless someone says something incredibly dumb. I'm usually pretty easy to spot, I always have my Wyoming baseball cap on.. except last weekend.. and we lost. :(

The difference is that we're not talking about Jared Allen. OK, it works for him. We all play our role. Players play. Cheerleaders lead cheers. Fans cheer.

it pains me to admit that i agree with misogynist nickname, and it was three years ago when i last attended a game. even from afar the commercialization seems to have gotten worse. i wonder if the geoce dennengstrom administration is pulling another adams center fiasco, i.e. taking away a key intangible and lessening the overall positive atmosphere felt by the fans.
