Crowd noise, etc

I don't like it... but it's a necessary evil unfortunately. You can't have lower ticket prices and lower advertising. I just ignore it.

Lower ticket prices? They've gone up every single year since I've had mine.

Rowdy people like cheap tickets and cheap beer.

If you want a rowdy crowd, give them both. Not going to happen.

Nor will rowdy, drunk people make a football team win. Did the Griz really lose because people asked you to sit down? Did the Griz really lose because people stayed at their tailgates too long? Did the Griz really lose because you couldn't get a wave going? The Griz lost because our defense was on the field for most of the half. The Griz lost because they've started arm tackling. The Griz lost because a young quarterback fell apart and the coaches kept him in. The Griz lost because our star RB fumbled twice. The Griz lost because it appeared that the second half adjustment was to try to coast on the 1st half lead. The Griz lost because NAU has a kick-ass RB who can't be tackled.

1st you can't blame a loss on crowd noise or lack of. i have noticed how things have gone down hill with a lot of things.

Pre-game....boring, worse and have seen better at YMCA soccer on sundays...that person should be let go!

During game...nothing to keep the crowd engaged, i don't remember hearing "cotton eyed joe" boring advertising and horrible mascots...how am i not suppose to fall asleep?

Back to the crowd....I noticed that as NAU was beginning their comeback/take over of the 2nd half, the Griz fans would start to get loud and try to pump the team up.......that being said, maybe the players should worry less about pumping up the crowd and more on tackling....i watched one player keep waving his arms at the NEZ the entire timeout (after the delay of game was waved off) then when NAU snapped the ball, they ran right over his flat footed arm tackle..........players need to be pumped up, they came out 1st half pretty jacked up, 2nd half was like they were leaving a funeral, flat emotionless un-coached team leads to 2nd half butt kicking not the crowd noise.

How much is a ticket?

If you pay early I think they were $227/seat this year. Homecoming was $55 and Griz/cat is $60

Thanks. Seems kind of steep. I would gladly pay it, but I can see someone like my dad getting worked up about those prices.

Learfield Sports is the advertising problem.

Ticket prices are out of control. I'm single and make a good living; I'll pay. But a family of four on a "Missoula" income. I hope someone is thinking about prices, and not simply how to extract the most money out of the fans as possible.

The pregame is terrible. Just dreadful. As is the music for the most part.

I think I paid $250 for 5 season tickets in bozeman.

To Brint's point, I could handle the advertisements if I didn't pay out the nose for the ticket. Both of them coupled with a diminished game day experience breeds apathy.

Looking at this gigapan,
http://missoulian.com/app/gigapan/giga7.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it appears as if the first 10 or 15 rows in the NEZ are rowdy, and above that it seems to die....check it out....

I agree. At one point, people next to me and I said almost at the same time "Stop cheerleading and start playing." Chicken and egg. Does the crowd get loud because the team's playing well or does the team play well because the crowd is loud? I lean toward the former, think that fans really overestimate their influence on the game, and that maybe the Griz have become too dependent on crowd noise (as evidenced by players taking pre-snap time and concentration time to pump-up the crowd).

those dudes in the front row right above where it says grizzlies on the scoreboard must be loud! look at the girls with them.

I've never been a fan of any player flapping their arms around like big bird, trying to get the fans' attention. It's actually insulting, like I'm not going to scream my head off if nobody's flapping their wings? Bullshit. If you play football and you flap your arms around, you look like an idiot. To me it just says, hey that guy isn't even focused. It closely parallels the self adulation guys after a nice play, the hey...look at me everybody. But then again, it's just my opinion.

In related news, a Mercedes reportedly costs more than a bicycle.

that's great. awesome seats. these things are fun to look at.

IMO a loud stadium can have a significant impact on the game. My first Griz game was the UNI game last year and that was one of the loudest games I've ever been to. I had the opportunity to talk with a couple of the UNI coaches the following week and they said the noise made it extremely difficult to run their offense and it was intimidating to their players. I think a high energy stadium jacks up the home team and can make a huge difference. Don't underestimate how players will feed off of that energy. It looked pretty dead at the beginning of the 3rd qtr. Having said that, the coaches have to coach and the players have to play and execute. Not too many teams will be able to win with 5 turnovers. I do think the administration should work harder to create a program that keeps the fans engaged and excited. I had the opportunity to go to 5 different FCS games last season and I can say without a doubt that NOTHING came close to the Montana game in terms of excitement, energy and fan support! I hope the fans don't take what they have for granted. Its very special indeed! I can't wait for the next opportunity to attend a game.

I think we have to get the huge football "bureaucracy" of staff to be thinned down so we don't have to make so much money to survive as a program. There is such waste and none of these staff can play music? Learfield has killed our atmosphere plain and simple. Music is what gets players and fans going and we have very little of it. How about a new song? Even that stupid "Gangnon Style" would have been more fun and current than what we have to listen to now.

Agree 100% with both grizphan and crackgina. Learfield has been a complete debacle for the Griz in terms of atmosphere and ways to get more people interested in Griz athletics.

Hopefully there's some push to dump Learfield as soon as the contract with them is up... anyone know how long that contract is?
