criswell and matthews

when last we saw these two in action, they'd combined for five points against boston college, while the future had presumably passed to matt martin, who scored 11 in that game.

"on further review," here's what criswell and matthews did for us last year:
--in 17 games, one or the other was the leading scorer;
--in 8 games, virgil matthews was the leading REBOUNDER;
--against stanford, in one of the biggest wins in the history of montana basketball, the matthews line was 23 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds;
--against nevada, in only the second ncaa tournament win in the history of the school, the two combined for 38 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists;
--criswell wound up as the fourth leading scorer in the history of the program;
--criswell provided veteran spark while matthews was money down the stretch of several late-season games both his junior and senior years.

tougher to replace them than we thought, eh? maybe krysko knew when to get out of dodge.

First and foremost, I am admittedly bias. My biggest issue is the lack of push to have Criswell put into AT LEAST the UM basketball hall of fame. (I know, I know, this thread is about Virg and Kevin) The only reason I don't push for Matthews more is because he was only here for two seasons. He was awesome for this program, but I don't know if he will receive any sort of hall of fame honors.

Why are we so quick to forget one of the greatest players in Montana basketball history? The team wants to move on, and is fully capable of doing so. I think the Griz will be right in the thick of things at the end, but for love of PETE WHY CAN'T WE COMPAIGN FOR CRISWELL!!!! Put him in something...the three above him in career points are in the Grizzly hall. In five years, he needs to be enshrined. He was our Lulay...only, Kevin actually won in the post season.

Where are they now? Where did they move what kind of jobs did they get? This season really shows how much we miss their leadership.

I believe Virgil is playing overseas in Germany. Went over there with John Seyfert and found himself a team.

Kevin goes to Grad School in Missoula in Physical Therapy. Lives in his happy home with the Mrs. ever since the funeral...err I mean wedding.

Good to hear! Sounds like they are all doing well! Thanks Gym Rat! Also good to hear Big John is back on the court again, we could have used his size last year.

If BIG JOHN is around the area, I would love to see him come in for a few practices to toughen up Vanderjagt some. God knows Jordan and Strait were toughened up alot when banging against BIG John. He would have been such a great help for us against BC last year.
