I like what Counts brings to the team but we have to be realistic about his role. He is going to be a short-yardage banger and a change-of-pace back, and probably not a lot more. He's part of the equation but I can't see him being that involved between the 20's, not a guy who will carry 15-20 times a game.

With Brady being fairly slow teams don't have to worry much about someone getting outside when Counts is in the backfield, that limits your options a bit. Plus I'm not convinced he can stay healthy if his workload increases, he's a physical specimen but he's constantly nicked up.

I like Joey for what he is...loud, proud, and in your face, a beast in short yardage and a good change-of-pace back, but honestly we need to find one more guy with a little speed and good hands who can keep LB's honest.

Yeah that's an issue we have to hope gets better, the fact that we struggled to run against basically a 3-man front is pretty discerning, I don't care how good our receivers are we need to be able to get them against single coverage not the blankets we saw Saturday.

It seams the last back that we had that really shined was Chase. I RB at this point should be a rotation to see who can get some yards. I also think Brady just lacks the wheels to make him a real threat on the ground. This offense surely needs some work after seeing what happend last weekend.

Jordan Canada didn't shine? We all agree that the lines in Chase's days had all this "swagger" and DOLA that we need to get back to. Yet Canada rushed for 1000 yards in back to back years behind lines that clearly needed some work.

Also, I think we have run for over 100 yards in both games so far with John as our feature back so maybe we will be alright. And please don't fall into the Atlanta Griz trap of saying crap like "well if you take away the 40 yard run". To quote Rick Bobby "that just happened".

Oh don't get me wrong Canada was a good back. However I think he ran different then say Chase or Lex,Yo. Make a move then turn it down field. Just my opinion.
Nothing to say that Peter or Joey can't do the same if they put there mind to it and get a little help blocking.

I know the egriz pundits feel Nguyen is the best back for this system, but I disagree. Counts is faster and runs forward, always getting those few extra yards we need. Plus he has great vision. John is a solid back but he needs to stop running sideways and go forward for those few extra yards plus he doesn't have the best vision in crowded areas missing openings to run through. I also think counts should be getting the ball in those elephant packages instead of our lb.

Counts should start. Yes, he should have carried the ball on 4th down instead of a LB. If he had carried, he would have got the first down, and even if we had a motion penalty (which may not have happened with Joey in the game), Poly would had to accept the 5-yard penalty instead of taking over on downs, thus giving us one more play to take enough time off the clock to win the game. It can be argued that Stitt's "trick play" using a LB, who rarely practices that play, essentially cost us the game. But we still should have won, if Ty coaches correctly in the final minute.

Atl, help me out here. Not arguing with you, just simply want to know what you think. You mentioned a couple of times that the Griz had two timeouts while Cal Poly was making their last drive. You allude to the fact that Ty should have burned one of them to make an adjustment with the Defense and coach the kids up. Here's my question...

Doesn't taking a time out on defense, thus stopping the clock and giving CP a chance to rest/sub/draw up a play/etc go against everything and anything that would actually ever be done in a football game EVER? If Ty calls a TO and stops the clock this fan board may have blown up. That goes against everything when you are trying to use the clock against your opponent so they run out of time. Giving CP a timeout would be absolutely nuts. Their coach would have loved that as he burned all 3 of his to stop the clock and hope to get the ball back for a chance at the end. Why would Ty every give him one more. That would have been the best present in the entire universe. I think if Ty calls a TO there, and CP still goes on to win, you would have had an Internet meltdown about how dumb our DC is to give CP a timeout in that situation. Please tell me you understand this?

John is the better RB. He is a better runner, pass catcher and don't forget pass blocking. He's very good at picking up the blitz and blocking them. Having Nguyen in the backfield is a bigger threat compared to Counts. Nguyen is a better all around RB.

We need that kid that came to the camp all the way from Texas... he had his way with everyone during the camp. Several Griz players were high on him and the coaches had him doing a lot as well presumably to get a closer look at him. He looked speedy like Nguyen, only with vision and dependable hands.

Yes for sure. But I wasn't positive that's where he wanted Ty to take it. He has said some other things that are head scratchers so I didn't want to assume too much.

I suppose you could argue that our offense was driving (sort of) down that last drive that TG should've had the defense plan already in place knowing that coach stitt may go for in and give it up on downs. "Hey, listen if they get the ball back, keep everything inside to the pursuit. keeps the clock running. don't let them get out of bounds". maybe it happened, maybe it didn't, maybe Poly out schemed the last few plays. Either way, I disagree that Ty cost the game. yes that was the final game winning drive, but the offense was the problem, period. If, then crap here, but if they don't have TO and drops we are not having any conversation about this game other than "It's sure nice to be 2-0 at this point".
