Correction to the record - Griz on the road in the playoffs

Not that his will have any effect this year, but...

I keep hearing all the commentators writing/saying that the Griz have all of these playoff wins, but that they've only had one road playoff win in their history. By one, they mean the 2008 victory over James Madison.

What they conveniently forget is that the Griz won the 1995 championship on Marshall's home field, against Marshall. That was most definitely a road game. Just because it was the home of the championship game at that time doesn't somehow make it a neutral field.

That is all....

Seems they also forgot a little win over Furman in 2001

I didn't include the 2001 championship game win because it was on a neutral field. The Griz win in 1995 championship game, though, was definitely on the opponent's home field, so it's a true road win.

 :thumb: :D

I was at Marshall in 1995. Largest championship game crowd ever, and we are playing on their home field.

If that doesn’t count as a “Road Win” I don’t know what the hell does.

Playoff teams with homefield advantage win more than road playoff teams. Not a little, a lot.

Here's a couple other things to consider. The West, where teams are few and far between, is a bit of a mystery for FCS sports writers in the East, where everything is within driving distance. A CAA team can play an entire season without getting on a plane. Same for the SoCon and the Southland.

So, FCS blogger Joe looks at the map and realizes how far he is from these division schools, looks at the cost of the plane tickets and the time it takes to get out here, then books a couple games preseason, maybe just one to establish his hot take on a conference that, at the end of the season, gets three of the top eight seeds.

How does FCS blogger Joe compensate for his lack of exposer to FCS teams in the West? Easy, he calls the local sports writers covering the teams.

If blogger Joe thinks your team sucks, or is likely to be the loser in one of those extremely rare upsets for a seeded host team? It's because your local sports writers have been telling him that your team isn't very good.
