Congrats UNC...

Great season Griz! I was most definitely rooting for you (not just because you were my Big Sky pick) to get back to the big tourney. I remember watching that insane comeback against Weber last season, and tonight - well I suppose it's nice to see a team make it for the first time.
It's been 14 years since JMU has even been to our conf finals... :(

This thread is too funny.

I want the best team representing the Sky in the NCAA's, and this year it is NoCo. If they draw Byu watch out........

The first 6-7 posts are pretty pathetic
typical Realtor to start a thread "congrats UNC, I suppose"

You'll never convince me that UNC is better than Montana. Are you telling me that they could have defeated Montana on a neutral court? I didn't think so.....

NoCo is the better team, they earned the right to Host. They didn't lose in Cheney.

Thanks alot WSU, you had to go and bring in facts into this session. How dare you!!!! Whether UNC was handed the game, got the refs etc. etc., they scored more points and are now dancing.

After a night to reflect I'm still pretty burned up about the loss and the role the officiating played...

However, as it's been pointed out, UNC got home court advantage by winning the regular season, all UM had to do was beat EWU and they probably would have punched their ticket last night in Dahlberg. It's about the entire body of work over the whole season and not just one night. The Griz abandoned what their strength was/is with their underneath game and unfortunately some of the team's glaring issues really popped out last night (depth at PG, lack of any effective SG).

Congrats again to UNC, good luck moving on. I hope the Griz can get an NIT bid, I'd love to see them back out there again this season.

Congratulations to UNC!! Any effort to bad-mouth the refs, their fans or their players to berate their program is unjustified and reflects badly on the effort of the Griz. We lost and its as simple as that.

If we won at their place, in spite of their players and refs it would have been a great win. A loss with those obstacles and the odds against us wasn't completely unexpected. We played good enough to win being short-handed at guard and in foul trouble the whole game.

Congratulations to the Griz for their efforts and here's hoping we play another game. Brian Q is a stud and we will miss him. Remember we lost AJ last year and didn't think he would be replaced either. Go Griz!!!

Thanks and good game Griz. You're a hell of a team and you'll be a force next year!

F you - your team doesn't deserve it. They shouldn't be anywhere near the NCAA. It was obvious the refs decided who was going to win this game early in the second half. You should be apologizing to everyone else in the conference for this BS. I wouldn't be able to take pride in my team if they won games like UNC did - with huge assists from the refs. UNC should refuse their NCAA bid - what an embarrassment.

Thanks WSUinPurple. Have read a few posts and about the bad refs. Come on people, sure your all pissed off but every team in this league has vehemently complained about the refs. It is, and always will be part of the game. The Refs DID NOT lose the game for Montana last night. and Bietzel is a very smart player and knows how to draw the foul. Thats just good basketball. So I am hearing a lot of sour grapes. Too bad because we Bears have always respected Montana's winning programs and traditions and want to accomplish the same things so yea, it is a blast when we beat you and you can take that as a compliment because Montana has set the standard!!

Post of the year! Blame it on someone else, that's the way to do it. What should NoCo apologize for? That the Griz lead for most of the game, but couldn't close it out, or that the Griz were by far the best team in the league, but couldn't keep the momentum going? They lost to EWU, and lost the chance to host, and they have only themselves to blame. You can blame the refs all you want, but it wasn't their fault you couldn't finish out the season like you should. Best talent in the conference, should have won, but didn't. Be upset, I would be, like I am at blowing a damn 16 point lead in the second half. It's no ones fault but your own. Yep, the refs were paid off and wanted NoCo to win. The only team that should be embarrassed should be the Griz, as GB1 would say, EPIC CHOKE.

All things considered, this is a pretty classy post from a Bears fan. Thanks 1313.

And I agree. The officials did not lose the game for Montana. Montana did that all on their own.

But the officiating was bad. And it was one-sided. The national announcers both on ESPN and on the Westwood One radio network even commented on it, and you know for national announcers to say so, it had to be so. Plus, you throw in all of the other independent people saying the officiating was clearly favoring UNC, and you've got an issue.

That said, I take offense at anyone saying UNC doesn't deserve it. Clearly they do. The officials gave you (in my opinion, at least) a substantial leg-up, but UNC took advantage of it and UM couldn't overcome the advantage, even though they had opportunities.

Congrats to UNC. Take nothing away from them. I just wish the game had been played on even terms, and it wasn't.

Congrats UNC. They made the plays when they needed to. We did not. That goes all the way back to the EWU game and the other games we lost that could have had this game at home. Sorry, but even though I did not agreee with a lot of the calls tonight, we had numerous opportunities to put the game away and we did not do it. Blaming the refs is for teams that don't win it outright. We are the GRIZ! We are better than that. Good night.

1) Poor shooting. Even Tinks said UM had many open looks & didn't take them. UM went 7 min. in the 2nd half w/o a field goal. I was surprised by the low scoring in the UM/Weber game, but maybe that was designed by one or the other coach.

2) I do not believe Derek Selvig played to his potential. For example, in the UM/Weber game, he was responsible for 5 turnovers. In the UM/UNC game he caused a turnover by not realizing his foot was on the boundary line when he caught a pass. I just wonder if his mind is really on the game. I'm not saying he's why UM lost. All I'm saying is if he'd played better, UM COULD HAVE won, not WOULD HAVE won.

3) UM could have won despite the officiating.

4) UNC players other than Beitzel stepped up.

5) It was a good game, exciting down to the end. UM made a good showing & did Coach Tinks well.

Thanks, it's nice to know we got some sympathy from our fellow Montanans. Good luck next year Bobcats! I think you guys will be the team to beat in FB.

Congrats to UNC for taking advantage of their opportunities. I hope they will take advantage of the bigger spotlight now. I will be pulling for you guys. Thank you UNC fans and Greeley for your efforts, and hospitality. What a great environment it was! Be proud of what you did.

I don't disagree with this at all. But if this program is going to get to the next level, it cannot be at all consoled by good showings. Tinkle shouldn't be happy about a good showing. The truth is that it doesn't matter if you lose by 1 or 35, you lose either way. And it's tough to build a program when you don't make the tournament.

So many on this board have poo-pooed UNC. UNC has shown it has the talent to win in BB in the BSC. I've said months ago that UNC football will be a major challenge in the BSC, and with the BB team going to the Big Dance, in the 4 years it's been in the BSC, that has to do something for the football program, if not other UNC sports, as well. I still say UNC will be a power in BSC football.

UNC has a proud athletic tradition, esp. football, and the BB team going to the NCAAs will carry over to the other programs. 500K people live in northern CO, an area from which Beitzel came. All I'm saying is let's stop poo-pooing UNC.
