Congrats to the Cats, But ...

And then the pick 6 and blocked FG in a 3 pt loss. Good FG block by Crews. UM's lineman must have inadvertently helped elevate Crews.
If it had to happen, I'm glad it was Crews. The way Bobby handled his recruiting to the Griz, and subsequently throwing him under the bus for specious reasons, serves him right. Karma is a bitch, right? Crews said all he wanted to be, while growing up, was a Griz. Kinda like a 'Jack and the Beanstalk' ending.

I agree the griz played extremely well, that’s way I was saying it was their most complete game, basically zero errors. I don’t think this griz’s defensive issue is the in secondary, we ran at will as demonstrated on the final drive. But yes that would definitely clean up the secondary as a group.

To be completely honest in we play again in Bozeman I’d expect the cats to win by 2-3 scores. Not a knock on the griz at all but it’s very difficult to win in Bozeman especially a game of that magnitude. Feel free to come laugh in my face if I’m wrong but this is the most complete MSU team possibly ever and I’d expect that result.
Your analysis is wrong and somewhat goofed up and incomplete. The Griz didn't play "extremely" well. Had they done that, they would have won the game. The Griz played fine, better at times, worse at times. The D in particular missed too many open tackles in the middle of the line, especially in the first half. About 5 or 6. Some on the QB. The Griz played better in certain other games and certainly in many halves.

The Griz made multiple errors and didn't play without many mistakes. Some big, many small. That started in the first drive.

A current Griz weakness is the secondary, and the inability to play alot of man without Loud (and the other injured players). This changes how the whole defense is played. The blitzing. The particular scheme/play call. You can't do certain things out of zone that you can do in man.

The Cats didn't run all over the Griz at all. Not even close. Yes, on the last drive. Good on the Cats, bad on the Griz. And the QB had a big game. Good on him and the Cats, bad on the Griz. That can be fixed by the Griz with changes in the scheme, and will also be helped by the return of Loud (I assume he's coming back) because his return will allow the D to do more things to combat the QB run.

Yes, again, the QB had a nice day and too nice of a day. But the two running backs had only 107 yards until the last drive, and then got up to 154 yards. Long runs of 25 and 15. The Cats had 268 on the ground for the day. Slightly over their average. But they averaged slightly less per rush than their season average. Cats averaged 5.7 per rush; Griz averaged 6.4 per rush.

Gillman was 15-132, or 8.8 per carry. Wortham was 3-40. So, 172 for the 2 UM backs. So, the Griz backs had more yardage than the Cat backs, on fewer carries. Yes, yes, I know the QB too.

Would you say the Griz ran all over the Cats? Or, at least that the Griz running backs ran all over the Cats. Again, they had more yards and yards per carry than the Cat RB's.

To me, the summary is that the Cat QB had a good running game, and the Griz lacked there. That was the running difference, and maybe the difference in the game. The Cats also had a very nice drive at end of game and a few other short periods of good running.

The Cat backs averaged 7.1 and 5.3 yards per carry. Considerably less than Gillman and the top backs did.

The Cats won't win against the Griz in Bozeman, and certainly not by 2/3 scores (unless you are talking extra points).

As I have said, the Griz should have Loud back, which will help the D and pass D significantly. The Griz will have a better scheme to stop the QB, and that will be helped by Loud's return. I'd bet that T. Hauck and Baer already have the new scheme drawn up. The QB isn't going to complete 90% of his passes again. It's hard to beat a team twice in a row. Hopefully, the Griz will make fewer mistakes and don't miss as many key tackles. Hopefully, the ball bounces more in the Griz direction than it did on Saturday.

I'm sure it will be good or great game.

It looks like you don't know what happened with Crews. Don't know why you would say some of those things. Crews didn't get thrown under the bus, did he? If so, how? Bobby and UM had outside third party sources coming at them over Crews and what he posted. They were getting pushed, and this pressure continued, developed and changed over time. I don't recall seeing any path that was going to get Crews an offer or opportunity from UM that. Now, on the other hand, I do think these outside forces and third parties screwed Crews.

The recruiting was fine and he committed to the Griz. It was his action that created the situation after his commitment. Not anyone else’s and not anybody associated with the program. Making his mistake on social media the first time probably should have been enough of a lesson, but doubling down with a burner account by him and his family showed maybe there wasn’t enough growth or maturation to warrant further risk.

Its been a few years now, and since you are in the know, why don't you go into detail and explain what happened and why. Name names, be specific. Who were these 'third party's you refer to, and who was getting 'pushed, pressured, which continued and developed and changed over time'? I really don't know, but would like the truth. Bobby should have backed Crews to the hilt, but didn't.

II

We scored 28 points on their vaunted D, Eli ran for over 100 yards against said invincible D: they scored 24 on ours, Ebenezer.

Our O scored 28, while theirs scored 24.

The difference in the game was a pic 6 for them and a called back TD on us on a controversial holding call on our TE.

This was their 5th or 6th consecutive game since their bye, while it was our 12th with no bye.

Listening to your whining, bitching and moaning, Ebenezer, someone would think we lost the game 31-3, not 31-28 !!!
This is my take as well. Cats got every single bounce and call to go their way. I’d love to play them agains and see if it plays out the same.

Are you sure?
:ROFLMAO: Who knows what Bobby does or thinks? He won't even comment on the weather, let alone 'game strategy' or something like the Crews screwup. He keeps his cards close to his vest.

If he did back Crews, he should have publicly said so. For that, he gets the blame. Guess that's why they pay him the 'big bucks.' Shut up, and go along to get along.🙄
How much is a soul worth, mine or yours?

Read the below Kaimin article. So, the first was the former player Corbin. And then the Kaimin too. This opinion was fairly early on, in April. More blowback came as time went on.

"UM football should brace for blowback if it signs Zac Crews"

"They are links to articles and forums discussing the fallout of a racist Venmo transaction Crews made last year, where he sent a message using the n-word and emojis of a Black man and gun, according to a screenshot tweeted by Brennan Corbin, a former Grizzly tight end.

The tweet caught some attention, and prompted responses from concerned Missoulians and other former Griz athletes. Shortly after, Crews posted an apology on his own Twitter page.

If Crews joins the football team this fall, it will be the third documented instance that a UM student or faculty member made a blatantly bigoted statement that received traction online. This is a trend that reflects poorly on our institution.

Would Crews’s potential teammates be accepting of this?
If Crews walks on with the football team this fall, Hauck and UM athletics should be prepared to address it with the media, and brace for the University community’s reaction."

[Later, I think another Missoula organization piled on. I'm not going to look for it.]

UM and the coaches, by NCAA rule, is not supposed to say anything about a recruit until the recruit has signed a commitment. I don't think they could have done that without violating the NCAA rule.

Thank you, Hoops.(y) Some of this is very new to me. I used to pick up a copy of the Kaimin whenever I passed through town. Its been over a decade since.

The 'third party' angle automatically draws my ire. Who are these 'third parties?' I've always been the Don Quixote type, one of the Three Hundred Spartans. Can't do that? Bullshit! Says who? I'd go into the Bull Ring without a cape. Yes, I've got my scars.

And, all this over a few posts, the printed word? Pathetic. You'd think he had his blood type tatooed under this left arm.

They are the woke crowd.
