Congrats to a former HS classmate, Jim McElwain for winning his head coaching debut today against the interstate rival and recent Pac-12 entrant the University of Colorado. It wasn't pretty, but the Rams got it done under McElwain.

Jim McElwain became the first Colorado State coach to win his debut in 42 years Saturday when the Rams rallied past their arch rival for a 22-17 win over the Colorado Buffaloes.
Garret Grayson completed 14 of 21 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns and Jared Roberts kicked two fourth-quarter field goals after the Rams had fallen behind 17-16.

Grayson outdueled Kansas transfer Jordan Webb, who was 22 of 41 for 187 yards and two TDs for the Buffaloes.

McElwain, the former offensive coordinator at defending national champion Alabama, became the first Rams coach to win his debut since Jerry Wampfler in 1970. None of other 12 Rams coaches who have faced Colorado had ever beaten the Buffs on their first try.

And in just his 2nd year at the helm of Colorado State, Jim McElwain has the Rams bowl eligible at 7-6, including a 5-2 finish to the season. They may not actually GET a bowl, but this is a huge turnaround after 3 straight 3-9 seasons and last year's debut at 4-8.

Congrats Jim. Glad to see Colorado State back in the mix....now set up a game with the Griz!

You may get your wish sooner than you think. Heard his name mentioned as a contender for the UW job. Not sure how serious it was.

If I had to hire an up and comer for UW, I'd hire Doug Nussmeier. Former Vandal Payton award winner and Portland native. He sure has made his mark as OC at Alabama.

You need to be clearer; there are two UW's with HC job openings that are on our future schedules.

My bad. Meant Washington

....Back in the day, when Jimmy was still in town, I really thought the Griz were going to offer a scholarship to the Sentinel QB.........Big Mistake...Jimmy had the talent, and moxy to be a good player for the Griz. As I recall, the Eagles stepped up to the the bat, and he got his opportunity over there. Jimmy is very loyal to EWU as he should be....Over the years, the Griz have lost some talented recruits to the Eags because of this...

If Coach Baldwin is in the market for bigger and better things, That instiution gets a 3for1 with him as he is an excellent OC, Recruiter, and Head coach.

Go Rams!

Go Griz!
