Conference Egriz Poll

I fully admit I stole this thread from TomCat88 over on Bobcatnation.com, but I thought it would be interesting to see the spin Griz fans have on predicting the conference.

My main problem with trying to predict the up coming conference was trying to decide where the Griz were going to finish. Before the season I really expected them to finish 2nd and challenge Portland State, but now I am not sure where to put them. To be honest I think they have as much talent as anyone in the league, and great depth, but so far this season they simply have not been playing with much heart, and I can not understand how a team with this many quality big men is being out rebounded as bad as they have. Still though as a Bobcat Tinkle's team scares me. Even if this team was to tank it come Bobcat / Griz this team with this much talent could really put a hurting on the Cats' On the other hand I could see this team taking down Portland State if they got their act together. The Griz are the wild card in the conference, a lot of things will be determined on how they play from night to night and the consistency they bring.

Here are what some of the polls are saying.

College RPI as of this date predicts

1 Eastern Washington (National Ranked 74)
2 Portland State (100)
3 Montana State (134)
4 Weber State (143)
5 Idaho State (186)
6 Northern Colorado (225)
7 Northern Arizona (254)
8 Montana (264)
9 Sac State (335)

The USA / Sagarin (as of Monday)

1 Portland State (Rank = 143)
2 Eastern Washington (159)
3 Weber State (176)
4 Montana State (181)
5 Montana (200)
6 Idaho State (216)
7 Northern Colorado (220)
8 Northern Arizona (223)
9 Sacramento State (332)

Ken Pomeroy Power Index (Pomeroy is very popular with those who like to put $$ down on games)

1 Portland St. (Ranking =108)
2 Weber St. (137)
3 Idaho St. (155)
4 Eastern Washington (188)
5 Northern Colorado (189)
6 Montana St. (197)
7 Montana (203)
8 Northern Arizona (220)
9 Sacramento St. (287)

Thanks MCat, always a informative and impartial. Tried to respond in the tinkle 3 yr extension thread, but apparently that is now locked.......hmm.

So my take is incredibly inconsistent, will lose to NOCO and Beat Washington. Put them just in the BSC playoffs in the 5 hole. Too much talent not to be.

I think those polls are fair with how the non-conf. has gone. It's realistic to expect a middle of the pack finish and, if it becomes a team chemistry disaster again this season, towards the bottom is realistic, too. But here is to hoping for the best!

Here's hoping the gestapo Egriz moderators quit locking threads for siagreeing with their blind lust for coach urethral dribble....

Here is a site I posted last year from Ken Pomeroy (as mentioned above). Not only does he rate all D-1 team but he will also project each teams individual games, final score, % chance of winning that game and, final win loss record for the year. I am posting the page for Montana, but if you want to look at any other conference schools, just click on their name and it will take you to their page. This page is updated daily so it will change as the season goes on.

wow..what a cool sight

Griz are rocking in field goal effectiveness...21st in the country

Griz looking not to hot in turnover %..182nd in country

Griz suck bad in offensive rebounds...294th in the country ...IMO giving the team last night
second and third shots killed them..we would foal them on the second or third shots..and send
them to the line.

The sight give the Griz a 18% chance of winning at PSU....a 1% chance of beating UW on the 28th

I say we have 39.5% chance at psu...and a 54.6 % chance if Jordo steps it up..where has he been lately?
He was my mvp vote for this year !

To Hasquet's defence last night I have it on Multiple (and one very, very good source) that Jordon was very under the weather last, and I was surprised he played.

With Eligin-Taylor out indefinitely, I think every team that faces the Griz in the next couple weeks are going to test your point guards, looking for turn overs and mistakes.

Jordan has been very sick. The last few years he has been under the weather this time of year.
Him getting healthy, McGillis starting to play as expected, and return of CET will all be good things. Too bad all that will not happen before PSU. 2 of those 3 will happen, the x factor is either CET returning or Taylor/Johnson combining for solid PG play. CET takes great care of the ball and very good defensively. Johnson is more turnover prone, yet also very good defensively. Taylor is very good running the half court game and not very turnover prone. He is good defensively when matched up on shooters, but I am not sure if he is quick enough afoot to stay with the likes of Dominguez.

So what does Tinkle do without CET against quick point guards? (1) throw many combinatations at them, in hope of wearing them down. (2) AJ take on defensive responsibilities, and Taylor run the offense, Where would that leave Staudacher though? (3) Change up strategy based on our personnel and use a 3 guard rotation. When PSU sits Dominguez, I hope Tinkle will rest AJ for a few minutes. I am concerned when Johnson is not out there we cannot stay with Dominguez without CET. All this will be remedied if Dominguez is struggling with his shot. We can go zone to keep him from penetrating. (4) Let Johnson have the majority of the minutes and learn on the job. Are his turnovers more due to his ballhandling, passing, or teammates not being ready? If it is his ballhandling, it may take some time for him be comfortable at PG.

I hope the team figures this out soon. I do hope to see Taylor taking more open shots too. He is a solid shooter, but sometimes is guilty of being too unselfish. I do like his presence on the court though. I wonder how effective going big against Dominguez would be? Maybe clearout the paint and have our guards post him up if PSU is in man. I love when teams do that, it really forces the other coaches hand. I just do not recall the GRIZ doing that much in LK's or WT's time here. If we were to try that now and then, I would definitely tip my hat to Tinks for good strategy.

GO GRIZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watched PSU vs Washington, and I would say the Griz can't worry just about Dominguez. Waters played just as well at guard and will be very tough to guard. When both are in and shooting well or finding the open guy, I say the Griz are just going to hope they can keep up with PSU or it could be a blow out.
