I appoligize in advance if this starts an unwanted IA/IAA debate. But I've been thinking, what if Krysko does stay with the Griz for a few years, and what if Tinkle or some unknown next coach keeps it going and the Griz turn into a higher lever BBall school.
What if the rest of the Big Sky can't keep up like what happened in football for a while.
Would there ever be a movement from alumn and fans to move to a conference that allowed the Griz to extend their reach even further as far as recruiting and respect, or whatever.

I realize I'm jumping the gun, as there is a long way to go. But with what Krysko said about the up coming recruiting class, and the thought that if they are as good as he thinks then that can only draw the attention of even better guys.

Also, anyone have any idea what kind of money a near sold out venue for most basketball game would generate?

Thoughts?

Jah,

It won't/can't happen if the Griz want to stay IAA in football. The BSC requires all of their members to be members in all sports, so the Griz couldn't jump to another league just for hoops. The only other option would be to become a I-AA Independent, which I can't see happening.

Isn't Gonzaga still in the conference they've been in for a long time? I know they were in the Big Sky at one time, but not now obviously.

As I recall they're in somewhat of a mid-major conference, not of course as "low" as the Big Sky, but similar. If you took their circumstance shouldn't they be in the Pac-10 playing better teams?

When it comes down to putting teams in a better national spotlight I see it more as how you consistantley do, not the conference you're in (for the most part)such as;

- Who you play (and beat) in your non-conf schedule.
- Winning your conference and winning the championship
- Winning at least 1 or 2 games in the tourney

Again, look at the 'Zags conference, Santa Clara, Portland, San Diego, St Mary's, Loyola Marymont, San Fran & Pepperdine. Not exactly a top notch power conference.

ReMax I agree it isn't a top notch power conference but it is a good hoops league. Gonzaga is obviously good but Pepperdine, St. Mary's, LMU, San Diego & Santa Clara have all come out of that conference & made noise. I would that league overall, top to bottom is 5 times better than BSC.

But some teams in the Big Sky have made "noise" too. Didn't MSU make a good run in the NIT a few years back? And Weber beat North Carolina in the tourneys? Not much of a resumee right now, but with the way these Griz are going, I see good things happening down the road.

Yeah, in 2002 we avenged a season sweep at Utah State (Pete Conway scored 30 pts. and drained 7 3's) and then lost at Richmond in a hard-fought game. That was a nice run.
