UM's best teams:

1. 1996
2. 2001
3. 1995
4. 1994
5. 2009
6. 2008
7. 2000 (five more minutes and they'd have been national champions)
8. 2004
9. 2002
10. 2007

Let's not forget 2010. Mariani, Tru. j, j Wilson, Tripp, Schillinger. A lot of talent on that team that beat SDSU and App St in what may have been the biggest games in WaGriz.
Wasn't that the 2009 Griz team?

Yes it was the 2009 team.

It's crazy looking back and knowing that the Griz had the ability to pull of a 4-peat.

2006: 2 points away from reaching the National Championship
2007: Had the talent to get to the National Championship, knocked out by pesky Wofford
2008: National Championship Appearance
2009: National Championship Appearance

I stand corrected. I just watch my NCAA DVD's of those games and they say 2010 on the front, but of course it was 2010 by the time the DVD's were produced, so yeah it was the 2009 team. My bad. And yes, the off-season is hard for me...

Are we not gonna add either of the '69-'70 teams. Both should have been champions if not for a stupid rule about JC kids not allowed to play in bowl games.

Absolutely. I should have clarified to say "the top ten I saw play". Those two teams definitely belong on the all-time list.

Montañans who appreciate defense missed a good one at Gatton Field in' 69. Packed house, needless to say. My first Griz-Cat game, in person. Both sides could crow about that game. Apples and Oranges. These guys KIDS could have played in the 2000's.

Saw them in Billings the following year vs. The fightin Sues. The wishbone was tearing it up in those days and these guys ran it to perfection. Think it was 28-7, and a bigger butt kicking than the score indicated. Only the elements could slow this group down - as S & W will attest, wasn't the '69 game the 7-6 mud bowl? Gotta be on the list.

How about the '37 Griz which were ranked in the AP tell their bone head loss to Idaho. 6 pro players from the '69 team and 5 from the '37 team. They should atleast crack your top ten.
Who did the 1969 Griz lose to in the Camelia Bowl 30-3. I'm getting old, I just can't remember.
Thank god for the internet. http://www.gobison.com/sports/1969/12/13/155023754.aspx?id=1705

I'm guessing your not old enough to know why the Griz lost. Of course I'm not either but I know my teams history. Back then the NCAA would not allow JUCO's to play in bowl games. Montana's roster had 38 players, 18 of which were JUCOs including nearly 1700 yards rushing and the schools all time and single season leader in INT's. meanwhile NDSU had a 50 man roster to choose from with no JUCO's. 1970 was just the second verse of the same song.

Sooooo, to sum up, excuses are like a** holes. Everyone's got one but nobody wants to hear em.
Are you saying they would have made up a 27 pt deficit?

Most deffenetly. That deficet may have never been there. With the score at 0-0 at the beggining, a full strength Montana squad would have been much more successful.

Edit:Sorry, had to clean up our discussion and for some reason it wouldn't let me keep Firm and Everett's comments.

@ very least, it would have been a game.

Would have to get a ruling from CDA, but I think this may have contributed to the obesity onset for fans of UNDSU. Round trip from Minnesota to California has got to be a good reason to eat.

With that in mind.......YOU saw the' 37 Griz at ANY TIME THAT YEAR? Well, let me just say this, YOU 90-ISH, DIAPER WEARIN', PABULUM EATIN', DEMENTED, SCOLIOKYPHITIC, OTOSCLEROTIC, MYOPIC, BPHd SOB, YOU'D NEVER REMEMBER ANY PART OF THAT SEASON EVEN IF YOU WERE THERE!!! Concentrate on the upcoming disimpacting session with Nurse Brauhilde.

IF you were unaware of the" saw play" modification, "never mind" as Gilda Radner often said on SNL! You may need to
google that reference. :D

You are exactly right, Dog! Sure there was the famous Route 66 to the west in the south but the lesser known NoDak to California road was titled the Route A&W. Lots of Papa burgers, onion rings and root beer floats. Few people know this but the original JB's Big Boy was modeled off a young lad from Fargo.

Very astute observation. It was a huge factor. Some scholars even contend that the Great California Bacon and Cake Shortage in the early 1970s was actually caused by UNDSU's bowl appearances. If I'm not mistaken, a chance encounter with a Grand Forker Porker at the Camelia Bowl also inspired the Big Fat Fatty sandwich at Fat Sal's.

Spot on about JB's. The poor kid didn't make it to 30. Stroked out at a Bismarck 7-Eleven.

Nice to hear the true story here on e-griz. Thank you, CDA! The rumors ran wild about him for years. Some thought he had died in Vietnam, while most others thought he serviced truckers in a rest area just outside of Minot going by the handle of the Highway 2 Bob. I understand that the Highway 2 Bob has become somewhat of an urban legend for adolescent male North Dakotans on prom night.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Ursa! I remember hearing about Highway 2 Bob and his signature move, the "Minot 2 Man Minute." While his method was rudimentary, and it wasn't how he got his nickname, most give ol' H2B the credit for paving the way for the four at a time, Middle Out Optimal Tip-to-Tip Efficiency Model, which we all know changed the hand job game forever. He was certainly instrumental in developing the strategy of pre-sorting for girth similarity to minimize time and maximize profit.

That highway gig never really panned out once the ND boys realized that his original moniker was a misnomer and he really wasn't so big after all.

Correct as usual. The whole thing was exposed as a result of the operation of the Boy Scout Rule of Ds, if I recall correctly.

I like it too but I think 2011's should be somewhere in on that list too - maybe over 2007... tough call...
