Compare UM, MSU vs. ND

Grizzoola said:
Seems to me MSU beat ND by knocking the hell out of Hanson, which UM didn't/couldn't. What say you?

I think und is a totally different team at home than on the road. Msu dominated every aspect of the game from the opening kickoff. I think und ended up with 180 total yards and msu was up around 700.

Outside vs MSU (cold)
Dome game vs. UM (nice and warm)
MSU had two weeks to prepare for game,
UND coming off a huge emotional win against the Griz, cause for an emotional letdown.

These are my basic points.

I don't get your logic. By that logic, UM, a cold weather school in a nice, warm dome, should have beat ND. Are you saying ND's OL was that ineffective due to the cold in the MSU game? To me, the respective games are a good measure of MSU's DL compared to UM's DL. To me, Hanson in the UM game could have stood back there & sent a text message before throwing the ball; in the MSU game, he was on his back about every other play. That's how MSU beat ND.

If I was a scat fan, and my two best teams in the history of my school, lost to the Griz both years, with one year being a very down year....I'd hate life(fandom wise), cause I'd know, deep down, it ain't gonna ever get better...

Uh huh. What a stupid post.

Griz run the ball, but can't stop the pass (#13 pass defense, worst in Big Sky). UND passes the ball, but can't stop the run (#12 ahead of ISU). UND vs UM is a close game that either team could win.

MSU runs and passes well (#4 rushing, #5 passing, #1 scoring offense). MSU's defense is stellar (#1 rushing, #2 passing, #1 overall) MSU shuts down UND rushing game(15 yards), and tees off on the qb (8 sacks, many hurries and hits). MSU has 40 first downs in this game, and sets a record for offense.

I've watched both the Cats & Griz this year. The Cats are getting better game by game, and are finally healthy. Their young, small, slow, stupid O-line is making doubters believers. The Griz are hard to watch. I expect we have not yet seen their best game, and hope it comes at Cat - Griz, specifically so you have to come up with a more creative excuse next year.

what the f*** was that....?
That, was too much coffee this morning, sorry.

It seems obvious why UND & UM match up for a close game, and MSU & UND don't.

UM and MSU match up well, if UM can run the ball.

UM is hard for me to watch this year because I expect more from them, and want them in the playoffs. They're better than their record, IMO.

No question in my mind, the cats are better than the Griz due to coaching. But UND was also able to audible and change plays to give them better chance of success.
On a side note, the Griz could easily be a 1 or 2 loss team. I believe they are that good. The cats will be playing a pretty good Griz team with potentially 6 losses that could easily knock the cats off. The Griz have a lot less to lose in this game and we seem to play better without the pressure because we suck when the game is close in the final minutes.

Too early yet to talk Cat/griz specifics, but the Cats OL vs um DL will be a key matchup as will the UM running game vs Cats Defense. Those are both big things that I think may tilt in your favor right now, however I believe that those matchups are a lot closer than many of you would like to believe.

If teams passed 60 times per game against the 'scats your pass defense #'s wouldn't look so good either. 8-)

So I was kinda curious to see how many times UND passed against MSU, because we all know they passed a ton against us.

They passed it 28 times and ran it 25 times (counting sacks, damn ESPN stats) making that 53 plays they ran.

MSU passed it 32 times and ran the ball 62 times, making for a total of 94 plays during the game. That's a crazy differential.

True, but if they did, Cats would be national champs.

I think if you look at MSU and UM on offense, they really aren't that different, production. In fact UM is ranked 12th in the nation for total offense. MSU is ranked 13th for total offense. MSU scored one more touchdown against UND than UM did. Blame it on the great outdoors, the road, whatever. The bottom line is one score isn't that much of a difference.
MSU is 10th in scoring offense UM is 16 in scoring offense, which should be enough to win a few games.

The difference is on defense. MSU is ranked in the 6th for total defense, gives up 285 ypg. UM is 82nd and gives up 400 ypg and 33 pts. UM is 113th in passing defense--third to last. The Griz have given up 2789 passing yards this year and almost surrender 8 yards per pass. QBs complete 65 percent of their passes against the Griz, who have been thrown against 377 times.
MSU is 66th against the pass, and has given up 1775 yards this year, a thousand less. MSU opponents have thrown 292 times.
