Commissioner Fullerton

Never trust Fullerton, he's a bobcat and a known "boy toy" for 2506...

I think foolerton is once again overplaying his hand, just as he has with psu, sac, northridge and unc, all of which were supposed to give the big sigh major media market exposure, but fizzled. Now he's promising to be a major power in the West? What other western FCS Conference is foolerton rising above?
It's good he bailed out the great west teams, but being a bigger big sigh doesn't exactly set the table for a bunch of playoff invites. The conference was positioned for three bids possibly this year. Is it going to get much better than that?
Not to mention that UM could wind up playing conference foes for a couple rounds before seeing a non conference playoff opponent. Aren't the non conference opponents one of the best things about the playoffs?

the first playoff game will always be non-conference.

I dont think he is talking about other western FCS conferences, rather it is about western non-BCS conferences. (hint think into the future)

To clarify, the first round of playoff games, i.e. the 4 games on Thanksgiving weekend, will not have conference teams playing each other. In addition, no conference teams in the top 12 seeds will play each other in the second round. The only way for conference teams to meet in the second round, is if a conference team wins in the first round and is then sent to play another conference team which happens to be a top 4 seed. Anyway, this is what the new rules combined with the bracket that was provided with the rules, seems to say.

Oh Geez. You would have to look a few decades into the future to see the Big Sky as some kind of Western power conference against non-bcs schools in the West. That's assuming the scholarship levels at all Big Sky schools would have to increase and some kind of attendance requirement had to be met.
I don't want to fire up the broken record about non-BCS schools being somehow equal to Big Sky schools. Passions flare when the subject comes up. I get it. However in terms of facilities and resources, excluding the Kibbie Dome, the non-BCS schools have made a substantially larger commitement to football than nearly all Big Sky schools and would likely continue to post realignment. Could be Big Sky eventually be headed to a realigned non-BCS division? Maybe. Could they be the dominant Western power in that division, which they would share with the Mountain West and the WAC? That would take a lot of work.
