Oh happy day! The Utah State Aggies are ranked 23 in one poll and 24 in another.

He probably should. But the University of Utah would NEVER take anyone from Utah State. He became "tainted" in thier eyes the day he took the USU job. I don't think you understand the level of hatred the University of Utah and Brigham Young University have for Utah State University.

Why do you think there is such a level of hatred for USU when U. U. and BYU don't even play in the same conference and beat them like a rented mule in all sports except basketball. The two schools think they are better than USU and they are right because they have a lot better program and are bigger schools. It's not uncommon to think of your little brother as not your equal but you don't hate him.

1. You brought up that we don't play in the same confernce. We always had until the original WAC was formed in 1962. When the WAC was formed we had a much better football tradition than byu. At that time we had players like Merlin Olsen and were nationally ranke (#9 I believe) byu had 2 winning seasons in school history at that point. Around that time we were regulary beating byu and utah in football. We also had a nationally ranked basketball program at that time. We were very competitive with the "U" and "Y" until the late 70's as an independent. Even the Salt Lake Deseret News did a story on our WAC exclusion in 1999 and concluded that it was inexplicable. Salt Lake City sports radio guys will even occasionally say USU was "screwed" by byu and utah.

For years the WAC (ie: byu and utah) said we were next in line for the WAC "just be patient, wait a little longer, your next".

I have also heard Wyoming's president opposed us because they did not want another "Mormon School" in the conference. We lead the all time series with Wyoming and byu did not move ahead untill about the mid-1990s after almost 20 straight wins since the late 70's early 80's. The Utes have owned us forever no doubt about that.

BYU's president at the time was the driving force of creating the orignal WAC he wanted to dump Montana, Utah State (who at that time owned them big time in football), and Denver who were in the Skyline Confernce at the time.

Well anyway we have not always been a "smaller school".

I can try to find a link to the Deseret News story regading if you are interested.

NavyBlue

That is a good story and shows that Hogan is right. Don't stop getting better for one minute becouse all the other schools in the BSC will use that minute of rest to get that much closer to the Griz.

Very true. It is alot easier to build on momentum of a succesful program, then try to start momentum where none exists. The Grizzlies have done a good job of always improving since that momentum started in 1986 or so.

Here is a link to the follow up story the Deseret news printed when we were admitted to the WAC late last year. I am still looking for the one from 1999 when Boise State was admitted to the WAC and Utah State was left out. They are interviews with LaDell Anderson who has an extensive history working at the BYU, Utah, and Utah State, and knew the innerworkings of the administrations at all three schools.
