So Jordan Tripp is one of the elite athletes in the entire country? If he is this far ahead of the rest of the world on athletic talent how exactly did he land at Montana? Was he a 4 or 5 star coming out of high school? If he is as good as I am reading one here is it possible he just dominates the NFL like Butkus or Taylor did? This is special if you are Tripp and you find out you are better than all the other players in the country, good for him!

Way to blow something out of proportion!

Yes he is an elite athlete. Will he become another Butkus or Taylor?? No he wont. And yes he could have played elsewhere but the kid bleeds maroon and silver UM is where he was going since he was a little kid. Cut the sarcasm and be happy for a homegrown kid who is headed places!

Tripp is a stud but he did not have offers to play elsewhere out of HS

Guys:

Please take some of this NFL combine stuff with " a grain of salt". Jordan Tripp is a great collage athlete and deserves all the accolades that he is getting but there was a fantastic article in the San Diego Union today about all the "bull shit" 40 times at the NFL combine.
Experts have broken down Ben Johnson's ' 88 Olympic 100 meter sprint and found that he barely cracked 4.4 in any 40 yard section. He was totally "roided " up yet NFL prospects seem to be faster than him. Olympic track athletes are the fastest humans alive. Most of this process is "crock". Football is about " game film ". Jordan's game production is what will determine his NFL future.

And it wouldn't have mattered if he did. There was nowhere else he would go, no matter what their offer was.

He worked hard for the past 5 years, and improved himself and his athletic ability greatly.

If people didn't change, develop and improve during college, the NFL could start drafting people in high school.

How many of your Cat players were at the combine? Serious question.

Yep, get out your tinfoil hats everyone. The nfl combine is a giant conspiracy to pump out fake and impossible 40 times. I heard it on egriz from CV.

Seriously? You think they are faking these times? They are most likely getting the official times by laser or film review of the run. The combine is one of the only places where you will get a damn near exactly spot on 40 time on a kid.

How the hell did Jordan Tripp not win the Buchanon this last year?

He's killing it out there.

He wasn't afforded the luxury of padding his stats with 8 quarters of divison two games. In fact I think he only played just over a quarter in the only d2 game. Same with wags. He played something like 13 plays...

Are you saying some college programs and coaches inflate 40 times? Why would that be?
Next thing you will tell us basketball teams and some coaches inflate heights and vertical leap. Come on, that stuff does not happen. :thumb:

(By the way........I'm being a smart ass, and don't expect an honest answer about that)

Exaclty, there is a difference between the official nfl combine and an individual school.

What are you talking about? 9.79 divided by 2.5 (40 + 40 + 20, or 2.5 40's) equals 3.916. Thus, on average, Johnson was running 3.9 40 meters. Meters are longer than yards. Given the start, Johnson was running way faster than 4.4 40 meters, like about 3.85.

There are 109.361 yards in 100 meters. 109.361 divided by 40 equals 2.732734--meaning there are 2.732734 40 yards in 100 meters. 9.79 divided by 2.732734 equals 3.58. Given the start, for much of the race Johnson was running faster than 3.58 40's.

Feel free to correct my math and methodology.

An opinion backed up by a national publication. But then again, you were the guy predicting a big year from the Griz secondary. I guess you need to return to the white surveillance van for some more recon. Living in a " van down by the river" isn't something to aspire to. Billy Bob and
Marcus are so disappointed in how you turned out Thurman. LOL.

Ron Ash (younger brother to Rob Ash) posted on twitter a couple days ago that he'd set a new combine record for the 40 using what he called the "olde english rules".

Fox interviewed Clay Matthews and asked him about the combine and how he went from a part time starter in college to a high draft pick because of the combine. They also asked him about Clowney's "only" benching 21 times. Matthews said that scouts look more at your numbers and technique in the shuttle and 3 cone because those are the skill sets you are going to use everyday at LB. I would say Tripp excelled at exactly where he should have so I would listen to these guys as they know what GM's are looking for in players.

Classic Ron. Never far from the 8 ball. The Ash brothers had a cousin (Mickey, I think) who could flat out pound it in the 40, but he went undraughted. Had the talent, but was a bit green.

PR:
Calculations converting Johnson's or Bolt's 100 meter times to 40 times are all over the web.
You can save yourself the math. Both guys come out around 4.38. Of course there is disagreement between the experts about the methodology but my point is this, did Bo really run a 4.17 40 yd dash or what ever it was? The NFL combine is not using Olympic timers for there analysis. The margin for error has to be greater at the NFL Combine.

Those calculations "all over the web" can't possibly be right. 100 meters has almost exactly 2.75 40 yards segments in it. 9.79 divided by 2.75 equals 3.56. Thus, Johnson averaged 3.56 40's. Given the start, which would be slower, he was running faster than 3.56 most of the race.

If you're talking about the start of the 100 meters, then, of course, the first 40 would be more than 3.56.

Note that 40 times are measured starting with when the player starts running. Races are measured from the time the gun goes off--and the runner has to then react to get started running. Thus, the reaction time is not included in a 40 time for a player.

Mr. Coogan,

You can believe whatever you want from your liberal California publication. Just goes to show your ignorance. The fact that you believe they fake combine times is comical. I bet you are also one who believes that our own government faked 9/11. And your sprinter example was already proven wrong in this thread so there's that you need to address too.

Also, not once did I say the secondary would have a big year. I said they would be improved. Which they were and can be backed up by actual stats unlike your conspiracy theories. I also educated you on how college football, specifically the secondary operates. But no predictions of big years. However, you go ahead and keep making stuff up to cover your ass.

Finally Mr. Coogan, you really need to let go of the fact that griz football didn't work out for your son and quit trying to bash griz players because of it. If you are so against all the kids that play for the griz simply because it did not work out for your son perhaps you should find another team and board.

P.s. "You" "really need" "to stop" "using" "so many" "quotes".

Thank you for your time Mr. Coogan.

With regards,
Thurman
