College Wrestling

the Butte program was something special but Street, Liva and others busted their butt to build it. I remember growing up and being at AAU practice at BHS and the high school coaches would come in and help. They also started the city-wide Little Bulldog tournament where members of the high school team would each take a school and coach us to a tourney. They put in the time. Corey Bolton cut his own throat as far as coaching was concerned (grew up and graduated with him) which I feel bad for him. Kids these days are differenct than they were when we grew up, too much entitlement with no work ethic. You want to see what the Butte of old looks like today...watch Havre...

...look at the NAIA talent Montana has. The Argos have wrestled Boise State and did ok and Northern has been up there as well. The kids are here to an extent

UGF, and maybe Northern, both wrestle at the Cliff Keen Classic every year, which is one of the bigger college wrestling tournaments in the NCAA world.. which features the top Div1 teams.. so I'd say they certainly know how to compete with the Michigan's and Iowa State's of the world.

At least I know I'm not alone Putter. Damn proud to actually bump into another BHS grad that agrees. I've read in the online Standard how well the Blue Ponies are doing, I saw the result from when the wrestled Butte a little while back and about fell out of my chair when I saw the results.

Any word on how Butte AAU has been doing since Bob Choquette passed away???

The AAU program is a shell of its former self but the numbers are decent. They just don't have the coaches that they once had (and when you think about it, it would be hard to duplicate). Jim Street was one of a kind and had the knowledge and passion to build it up but he was one hard SOB.....Philius in Havre is of that same mold. I coach MS Wrestling up here in Shelby and they are extremely sound wrestlers and the way the perform reminds me very much of Butte when I was that age wrestling for East Jr High
