Coaching movement

This is the gist of the problem. If you can’t stop an 8 minute game winning drive you have no chance.
That had nothing to do with 3-3-5. Griz D had held Cats most of game except for the QB. Cats had a terrific drive. That happens some time.

Did you not enjoy winning 13 games and being ranked no. 3 in nation?

The reason very few programs run the 3-3-5 isn't a coincidence. Any team with a physical offensive line and a competent coordinator figured out you could just run it straight at them. The scheme you're defending gave up 439 rushing yards to the Cats in 2022, their first 13 plays were all runs and we couldn't stop it. Then 326 yards in 2024, and 241 in the playoff semifinal this past December. The Cats didn't need to scheme around the 3-3-5. They just handed the ball off. Defending that scheme when those are the results against your biggest rival is a tough sell.
How about 2021 and 2023? How about beating 4 MV teams? Yes, Tommy Mellot. He didn’t run straight at us. You are a cherry picker.

That wasn’t just because of the defense. Ah Yat was the only 4,000 yard passer in the nation, Gillman was the best running back in FCS and special teams were very good.

Nope. But I saw what happened. Griz lost contain. Dowler made a nice adjustment. Our starting safety had been tossed on a bad targeting call. 2 db’s ran into each other. It had nothing to do with the 3-3-5. Did you play college db like I did?
Lost contain like they did all year because of the defense. Thankfully, like you, that defense will be a thing of the past.

I’m going to laugh so hard if Illinois has one of the best defenses in the Big Ten next year.
Bobby's defense and his coaching style demand full control of the players lives . Do you think Bobby can have the same level of control of the players and the program at Illinois as he did at Montana?

You implied that their record was from the D. You are demented
I implied no such thing. You are stupid. Apparently uneducated too. Can’t read. Can’t say logical things. You are Mr. Google-AI. Didn’t play football. Don’t attend Griz games in Missoula.

He will not have to control the way he did here. There is a community watch group that has a lot of influence on things at the University as they see the 2012 issues in Missoula as a whole on the football and athletic program as a whole.

Have you not learned yet? PR implies nothing. He makes a statement and then waits to set the hook for a good debate.
His argument is that saying "Did you enjoy the 13 wins?" "implies" that I attributed the 13 wins all to the D. I don't know how that guy can get through a day of life, unless he has a very simple life.

Also, the 3-3-5 is a great scheme against the pass. Adam Jones running around the edge would be a better example of the deficiencies of the 3-3-5. But again, personnel matters. The Griz need more beef at the LOS

How come the griz had the worst pass D in the conference last year if the 3-3-5 is so good against the pass? How come they were 2nd in conference against the run if the 3-3-5 is so bad against the run?

Not enough pressure on QB's. Give a quarterback time and he'll find someone open even if there are 10 DB's out there. Against the run, the DC made great line stunts and the LB's are exceptional in that regard. Personnel.

The Jones run was a huge mistake in lining up and execution by the Griz, and wasn't a scheme issue. Perhaps the biggest D mistake of the year. And I don't think the mistake had anything to do with beef. Look at it again.

Good questions. But the Griz weren't worst in pass D. They were worst in pass yards given up. But we're good and very good in other pass D stats.

From a prior post of mine:

"Some stats: 2d in conference in conference only and overall defense against rush. Behind the Cats. 120/140 yards. In scoring D, 2d in conference overall and 3d in conf only. Basically last in pass D in yards giving up, but 30 yards better was about 4th place. 1st in conf in interceptions; 2d in sacks. Interceptions were 2d in the nation. Only 58.3% of opponents' passes were completed, essentially tied for best in the conf with 2 other teams. Cats had more passes thrown against them, but allowed 62.3% completion rate. Every conf team gave up about 7.5 yards per pass or per completion (not sure which), except Cats were down at 5.8. Griz gave up 48 more passing yards per game, than the Cats did.

No. 1 in conf in Red Zone D. Mediocre in Total D, but top half of conference."
