Coach K to the Bucks

I'd be shocked, frankly, if Tinks has an interim title. My hunch would be that he was largely promised the head gig as soon as LK left when he agreed to stay as LK's assistant.

Well crap, knew we couldn't keep him forever. I seriously was really looking forward to one more year with Larry, but I really do not expect any drop-off with Tinks either.

happy to have this over and get on with it. this stuff would just continue to be a distraction hanging over the program and the players still here. hoping that Tinkle will be given the program, he and we will be fine. I expect that Wayne will be with us a long time if he is given the opportunity!

As for K, wish him the best. I do not care for the NBA but it appears that this is something that he cares about...at least enough to live in Milwaukee. I have been there many times. It is like Omaha with a large lake!! Oh and some nice brew pubs too.

I got to say the Missoulian coverage of this deal is terrible. They basically posted the ESPN story on their Website without adding anything to it. Are there just too many sports to cover in Missoula right now for the Missoulian to do some digging?

I am saddened tonight. I really thought we had coach for one more season, then I thought he would be off to another college. I am surprised that he would want to endure the rigors of half of his life on the road for seven months of the year. He has done it before so he knows exactly what he's getting into. Good luck Coach K - you are a quality human being and thanks for coming back for the third go around! Good luck Coach T - the GRIZ basketball program is in good hands!

The "interim" tag is always a mistake for someone who might be made permanent. If Tinks is worth a shot, then give him the title and all the support that goes with it. If he isn't then make him interim to keep the wheels on the train until the final replacement is found (then don't be surprised when he leaves). It would have great to have Special K around for another year but I wish him well in his NBA future. I'll be looking for him in a head coaching spot someday soon!

There isn't much else to say..
I'm sure they called him and he's not talking. Guff isn't talking. O'Day isn't answering or talking. It's summer, so the paper is probably short-staffed a bit with people on vacation.. It's not like the Air Force One crashed (although it sorta feels like it a little)...

There's just not much else to report than what we already know... I'm sure they've got writers working on a couple of sidebar stories for tomorrow's paper. That is the bread and butter, after all, the paper, not the Web (yet). So, I'm sure when the editors clear stories, they'll get posted. But this stuff takes time.. You don't just trot out a paragraph here or there and toss it online.

Plus the editors have all the other stuff to read and proof, too... I have no doubt that they're working the story...

Last, I'd just like to add my congrats to LK and WT if this is true. I don't care for the NBA (I couldn't even name who's in the finals). However if that's the career path Coach K chooses, then my hat's off to him for taking the step he wanted to. And from what I've heard about WT, he's going to be a good coach. And, I suspect, he's the sort of guy who'll be around for awhile. My best wishes to him and the program!

There will be a piece in tommorows paper about this situation. The Missoulian isn't like a message board, they can't just go & post rumors online w/o first confirming exactly what is going on.

If Krysko is leaving, that's too bad for the Grizzly program, but he left a great foundation for your basketball program and Wayne Tinkle will make an excellent head coach. As for Larry, he did a lot of great things for the Grizzlies and the conference and he will be missed. You'd be hard pressed to find a Bobcat fan that doesn't like and respect the guy. Good luck in the NBA Larry.

One other thought on the "interim coach" tag. Don't do it! With one year contracts, what's the point anyway? Wayne deserves the respect and stability that the interim label would take away. It also would send a poor message in terms of the positive direction the program is finally heading in. :twocents:

Krystkowiak's complaints about the situation at Montana was the school's inability to offer more money and years. Montana has traditionally not been a high-paying job or a place where multi-year contracts are offered.

Coaches come ... and coaches go... wonder why...

This is a sad, sad day for UM and a HUGE loss. However, I agree with the poster who said that this was inevitable and it is good to move on. I have full confidence in Tinks and the program will continue to move in a positive direction.

anyone home????

on a side not:

If Tinks is here more than 2 years, then we know the program is in trouble.....we are a feeder program for coaches.

end of story.

If this is not a wake-up call to the Board of Regents, I don't know what is! I am disappointed in Krysko though as he had a good thing developing and to see him take an assistant job in Milwaukee.... :crybaby: I wish him the best of luck...

Well said. I agree.

Good luck in Milwaukee Larry & Jan. I was hoping you would remain at UM for another year or two, before leaving. My only surprise is that it is for an NBA job, because I know you have kids and the travel in the NBA is brutal. BRUTAL.

Good luck Tinks, I have confidence in your ability to do the job. I hope you can build on the momentum built up over the last two years.

Nothing wrong with the way it is now. Our tax dollars are better spent on things other than HC positions.

Alpha, I believe you are one of the posters that continually complains if the Griz do not win enough games, or should move to a more visible D-1 conference, and then you spout this comment about not paying HC.
