Coach K to the Bucks

Is this really happening? If it is, I can't believe that he's now gone. Looks like the head job belongs to Wayne Tinkle.

Don't believe it yet, but if true it is too bad he did not sign a multi-year contract. The bucks would have had to buy it out and Montana could pocketed a nice bit of change to help the new guy out.

I can understand the money aspect, but the NBA? That would be my answer to the question is there a sport worse than soccer.

Wow! I have to say I am surprised unless they told him that by coming there he would have a good chance to be their next HC, otherwise, he was a rising star in Missoula and could have written his own ticket with another good season....

Thank you for some bit of proof. To much stuff floats around on here that is just BS. You can never be too careful.

I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true. Coach K is leaving... Montana was lucky to have him and jump start the men's program.
I will surely miss having him as the head man at Montana.

This all started right after Brad Huse left. Larry and Brad were closer than most people know as friends and Brad was Larry's most important assistant. When Huse left Larry was gone.

Yes, Tinkle will be a fine coach... the Griz have some good talent, and some good players coming in....

BUT THIS IS A HUGE LOSS FOLKS!!!!!!!

Larry K. is not only a recognizable name, he is well respected and has many basketball connections (NCAA and NBA). He was good for Montana and the Big Sky Conference in terms of respect and media exposure. On top of that, what he would have been able to recruit at Montana in the future will be awfully hard to duplicate.
Montana was extremely lucky to have a guy like Larry the last few years, and it was only a matter of time before he left. For those who didn't really know, he was actually quite close to leaving last year. For those who want to blame the lack of multi-year deals, don't.... He would have been leaving soon regardless, trust me.

I agree with GrizNation. I have no doubt that Tinkle will be very successful and certainly has the Xs and Os knowledge. But Coach K brought intstant respectability to the Griz and to the league, and his contacts will be greatly missed on the recruiting trail.

If it is indeed true, than thank you Coach K for revitalitising the Griz program. It's nice to care about Griz hoops again.

As a 'Cat fan I can honestly say that i congratulate his move, but I will miss him. He is a quality guy and a great coach who achieved respect from most of us in the the BSC.

I'd like to think the press conference has to do with some recruiting news. I kind of doubt it though. :crybaby: Hopefully, if Larry is leaving, Wayne T will be announced as the new head coach at the same press conference. Wayne deserves it and will do a fine job! :thumb:

Oh, stop worrying. Yes, Larry is a great coach. Tinks is also a great coach and has the respect of the returning players, plus the charisma to relieve any worries of incoming players. He had a crash course in coaching from 3 different bosses in 5 years, and is smart enough to recognize what aspects of Holst, Kennedy (seriously, he wasn't ALL bad. Just mostly bad, like 99%, if not slightly more), and Larry he should mold his own style after. So should this unfold as it seems it will, Grizzly basketball will suffer very little.

So, is Wayne going to be THE coach, or will he be the INTERIM coach?

Assuming if this rumor which seems very real is true, of course.

Krysko almost became the assistant coach in the NBA last year for Mike Montgomery. Now he gets to be the assistant coach for Milwaukee Bucks. I always had the sense from the time Griz hired Krysko that he had a goal to coach in the NBA. Just didn't have the coaching experience yet. Now he has it and has had great success at the college level.

Will miss you Krysko. But, Tinkle should do just fine. Hasn't had any head coaching experience, though. But, if he chooses the right assistants, he will do well.

There won't be an interim tag on Tinks. He will be HC.

While this is a sad day for Grizzly fans, it is a new beginning for both Larry and Wayne. Congrats to both of them.

Just a note on Larry's class, given the way some of our other coaches left - Talk to the administration and tell them, and then tell your players immediately before any other word leaks out. Then let the University call a press conference to tell everyone else. This has been handled properly by everyone involved to this point.

And the rest of the Big Sky conference just let out a big sigh of relief.

Congrats & thanks Larry, its time for Wayne to step up & shine!

by the way Tinks is undefeated as a UM head coach (1-0)

Tinks is undefeated and is 1-0 (at Weber) when Kennedy was suspended. The interim tag would be a huge mistake and I can't believe they'd make that mistake again. Wayne probably has learned a few things from the coaches he's served under but he's his own man and in my view will do great. He is one of the most sincere and genuine people I've ever met and is exceptionally good with young athletes.
