Coach Greg..... PLEASE red-shirt Kidder!

It's no secret that I'm easily impressed, and know close to zero about the X's & O's of football. I firmly believe that I shouda' started listening to G1 a long time ago!

Since ALPHA, or BW won't return any of my calls, I'm forced to get my knowledge from another source. Thanks to G1, I think I finally understand the spread option.

Regardless of your opinion of the G1, he understands the game, and I thank him for that!

I am pleading with the Griz coaches to resist the temptation to to play Caleb Kidder this season. This kid is a great recruit, who could have been a star at the FBS level. Please do NOT waste a year of eligibility on him by playing him in 9-10 plays a game as a true freshman! I do not care if he is one of the top 4 defensive tackles this year! He is 18 years old, weight only 240 lbs., and is not that much better than the alternative player that you should waste an entire year of eligibility playing him.

Let him hit the weights, learn the defensive system, and become a dominating D-lineman for FOUR FULL YEARS here! He has the potential to be an All-American. But, he will not be a factor as an under-sized frosh playing this season.

RED-SHIRT THIS KID!

Brilliant subject. we should have a discussion like this before every season. What other true Freshman should we resist playing for a RS year? Nacarrato, Gamboa, Todd come to mind for me. I thought of Holmes, but he will be seeing good time this year, at least more than spot duty.

In a perfect world I'd love to see all these guys redshirt. I think at least three of them are going to see fairly significant playing time (and by that, I mean more than JJ saw in his burnt year).

Isn't Kidder a d-end? Jeez, is anyone paying any attention at all?
Moved to D-tackle. Played d-tackle in the scrimmage that BW was not able to attend.

Regardless, coach Gragg coaches the o-line and not the d-line and Kidder ran with the 2s all night tonight and even saw some time with the 1s in certain sets.

If he sees rotational minutes, then this will not be a burned RS year. For his sake, I hope he is part of a consistent rotation, rather it be DE or DT.

Kidder is in with the DTs right now.

The issue is this, you're looking at having Caleb Kidder be the backup at DT or going with Shawn Bradshaw or Trevor Rehm, two other converts (Bradshaw from the OL, Rehm a DE). I think all three will probably play this year.

If Kidder is the 4th best DT of the group... you have to play him, even if it is for 15 - 20 snaps. He'll be a solid ST contributor as well. It worked pretty well for Ryan Fetherston to work his way up.

I agree with Baller, if he's the better player - play him.

In a perfect world he should red-shirt so we could have 4 years of him at DE or DT, however the lack of depth probably will push him into playing.

Got it. Thanks. I need to pay more attention. Ha-ha. I wonder if the reference to coach "Greg" was to Gregorak and not Gragg.

Good point, maybe I should give Growler the benefit of the doubt there.

This freshman class is very talented, I wish the Griz had the luxury of being able to redshirt all of them, but from the looks of it we will be seeing some talented true freshmen playing this fall out of necessity.

Kroy Biermann played as a true freshman, hopefully Kidder and Holmes will work out just as well ;)

lets just send all of our recruits to attempt pro baseball careers (Brandon Weeden), LDS Missions (Austin Collie) or Jail (Jimmy Wilson).....so they can get even older. Obviously age translates to success in the NFL, something all of these older college players are experiencing. i'm sure their elite talent and football smarts have nothing to do with it.

Caleb Kidder, Holmes, & Nacarrato will all be fine and contribute. Brint brings up a great example in Fetherston. He made a ton of big special teams plays as a frosh.....we wouldn't have been as good without him on the field.
play the best players. its as simple as that.
