Close Calls Last Night

Okay I was at the game and there were literally zero replays (ncaa rule) Help me out here with these:

- was that truly a TD toward the end when the ball looked like it hit the white back of end zone or at least hit the ground. They reviewed it in booth and upheld it

- was it a roughing the punter? Bobby and coaches seemed fired up on that

- how much holding and pass interference calls did they absolutely ignore?

- how did they suddenly review that supposed targeting on Robertson when no flag was thrown on the field for it to begin with?

- how was that stripped ball on their WR not a fumble? It clearly came out! Did they say it was whistled dead?

No. The ball hit the ground.
No. Lewis was blocked into the punter.
At LEAST 80, because EWU held on almost every passing play
All plays are reviewable for targeting. A flag doesn’t have to be thrown
It was a fumble. THey fucked that call up too by claiming “forward progress” even though the ball was out before the whistle was blown….and apparently a “forward progress’ call isn’t reviewable.

Listening to the game, Gurns said the roughing call was called because our guy bounced off another guy and rolled into him. A missed call yes, but why do we risk a call like that and give them an auto first down?

Damn that crew was a disaster! How about the ref calling that measurement a first down and the other one had to come in and say nope it’s short by a few inches! WTF!

Why do we risk it? Did you miss the blocked punt that was a game changer?

When I saw the refs huddling, it seemed like one was looking for a way to give the first down to the Eags.

Several griz players then pointed out that the ref didn’t even pull the chains taut..

One seemed to tell the first one—not to make that foolish attempt with the whole stadium watching— to make the correct call, so he/they relented and pulled the chains taut.

Aha (that much short) of a first down!

Indeed..

That crew in the 2nd half.

They should be blacklisted from officiating a BSC game

I agree with everything AZ said and will add, even the announcers said several times there was major holding on almost every EWU play and they were surprised it wasn't called.
And, damn, the refs took twice as long as it should have discussing almost every flag.

Yep, with the first measurement you could see there was slack in the chain. I think our players complained in order for the remeasurement to happen.

Yep. AZ is correct on all points. The TD was a difficult call to reverse but it should have been. The lack of holding calls was inexcusable and inexplicable. Sone of them were blatantly egregious.

To be fair, though, Montana got the benefit of some calls/non calls going their way as well.

That entire crew was a disaster. They were a large part of the reason the game was longer than the Forty Years War. I don’t think either team was harmed by them more than the other, but any of us who had to suffer through watching the game sure were.

I forgot about that. That may have been the loudest the stadium was when they had to change the call.

They were terrible, but they were consistent. At least players knew what was and wasn’t going to be called.

I’ll take consistently bad over inconsistent every day of the week.

YES!

80 pass plays and not one holding call.
Every time EB scrambled, and he scrambled a lot, a Griz was being drug down by his jersey.

Not one single PI call or defensive holding call on our physical secondary over 80 pass plays.

It goes both ways. EWU had just as much to complain about with those no calls as the Griz did.

Didn’t see any of those 😂

Oh, agreed. But honestly, if it were called correctly, they’d have been WAAAAY on the wrong side of that equation.

I absolutely loved the crowds reaction right after the "Whistle Warning" made by the P.A. announcer

 :thumb: :o

I was definitely scrreaming at the TV during that measurement, when they first stretched the chains out they didn't have the chain tight or it was twisted and there was a bend in the chain right by the ball making the chain shorter

Yep, with the first measurement you could see there was slack in the chain. I think our players complained in order for the remeasurement to happen.

The best part wasn’t even the slack. Our tickets are above the 30 on the east side and they literally held the marker in the middle of the chains short of the line at first like somehow nobody was going to notice.

That was coastal Carolina level of incompetence. The difference being this time we are built to overcome that. The best way to not complain about the refs is take them out of the game.

As for the OP I agree with AZ. One comment on the forward progress however. If that forward progress was for a critical first down can they spot be reviewed? ABSOLUTELY! Then this call absolutely should be reviewable.
