Clipboard-gate

Is it maybe who wears the smallest pants?? 'Cause I can squeeze myself into some pretty damn tiny skinny jeans so long as I don't have to bend over. Now without any photographic evidence I don't know if I can compete on a Chucker Max level, though.

Let me know if you really are

Dude. The only thing I’d bet on is the game. And I wouldn’t do that because, (1) I don’t take money from suckers and (2) suckers never pay anyhow.

Also, I have no plans to attend. I attended the ewooo game, and I have a strict “One DIII Facility a Year” policy.

Fair enough. It has nothing to do with money. Perhaps when you are in the area another time.

This story has so many layers beyond the basic facts that a coach broke a clipboard and threw it at an opposing fan. That’s really not that newsworthy by itself.

There's the celebrity family with nepotism angle. Meh.

Assault, blood, police report. Unsuspecting old man hit in the face. Ok.

The “souvenir” coverup angle which is pretty good.

But I’m convinced the reason this story went viral today was because of the exquisite trash talk by a high schooler.

“I said, ‘Hey coach, maybe you should focus on how small your pants are, rather than breaking a clipboard,” the senior told the Tribune in a text message.

Tiny pants is so next level. And take it from someone who loves to run his mouth at the games, I cannot give a bigger tip of my hat.

UNCU will forever be know as Tiny Pants U

Oh my god!!! This is the story that just keeps on givin'!!! This article is GOLD, Jerry. GOLD!!!

https://www.greeleytribune.com/2021/10/06/ed-mccaffrey-addresses-clipboard-throwing-incident-montana-state/

University of Northern Colorado head coach Ed McCaffrey addressed during his weekly press conference the incident of offensive coordinator and son Max McCaffrey throwing his broken clipboard into the stands at the Montana State game Saturday.

Here’s what the eldest McCaffrey had to say:

I just want to take this opportunity to compliment coach (Brent) Vigen on his football program. What a great group of coaches and players. They’re so talented, but more than that, you know he’s a class act. I’ve known him for years. He’s recruited players that I’ve coached in the past. Other than them being really great at coaching and playing football — there’s nothing not to like about them.

They play football the way it’s supposed to be played. It was a great football environment, other than the scoreboard for us. The fans were great. Couple of them chanted out, “We love you McCaffrey” and “Go Broncos.” For those of you that did that, I really appreciate it. Thank you.

And at one point, to give you the landscape of how close everyone was, a fan yelled out to No. 7 (Ty Okada), “They can’t block you.” I didn’t say anything because they were right. We had trouble blocking him all day, but they’re a class act. The fans were great.

It was an incredible football environment for me and for our players. We were getting our butts kicked, and it was actually more jovial than anything with the fans that were behind our bench.

There was an incident where my son Max, coach McCaffrey, got upset at one of his play calls, because it didn’t go our way. He was only upset at himself and no one else, because, again, it was a cordial environment.

He slammed his clipboard against his leg in frustration at himself and a fan yelled, “Hey, we’ll take your clipboard.” He didn’t do it at first, but like — “Hey we’ll take it; throw us your clipboard.”

He’s like, “Are you sure you want it?” after that play call, and they’re like, “Yeah, yeah.” He lightly underhand lobs his clipboard to a fan that was in the stands who had his hands up calling for it. And for whatever reason, he put his hands down and it kind of sailed like a Frisbee over his head. It was a very light underhand toss, and it did strike a fan behind him, and it was unfortunate.

Max feels awful about it. It was a complete accident; kind of like if you threw your keys to someone and they didn’t catch it. They hit the person behind them. There was no ill will, no anger or frustration at anybody or the fans or anything. It was just a really bad decision by him to engage with fans, even though it wasn’t in anger. It was kind of in jest. It did strike someone, and for that, he is very sorry. I’m sorry that it’s taken away from discussion about our football program, and he has admitted it, he has apologized. He certainly has fixed it and will never do it again. So, it was an innocent enough mistake, mistake nonetheless.

But I just wanted to make abundantly clear the respect I have for coach Vigen, his team, the fans and that there was no anger, hostility whatsoever. We were a little bummed we were getting our butts kicked, but other than that, that was it. The fans are great, and it was just an unfortunate accident that we have admitted, fixed and corrected; certainly will never happen again. I think that is probably all we need to say about the incident, and kind of turn the page and move on.

The university also stated that it will have no additional comments on the situation. Montana State police logged it as an assault, but no further details have been released.

Now, I've been to a fair number of football games in my day, and I'll admit it's quite natural for fans to ask coaches along the sidelines for a broken clipboard to be tossed their direction. So this story makes allllll kinds of sense.....

McCaffery HAS to be fired after this, no?? I mean, his son Chucker beaning some poor fan with a busted clipboard could possibly be excused if the head man stood up and said something along the lines of, "That is behavior that is not and will not be tolerated at noco, and the assistant coach has been suspended for ____ weeks without pay and will have no association with the program during that time" (fill in the blank, some number greater than 5). But to openly LIE about it???? Suggest the fans wanted his clipboard?? JFC.

Oh!! I almost forgot: WE LOVE YOU McCAFFERY and GO BRONCOS!!!!!

This story has more alternative endings than Urban Meyer’s hand in my grand daughter’s pants story.

These seem mutually exclusive. One or the other.

You have got to be the biggest keyboard warrior on the internet. I'm talking about the entire world wide web, and there's a lot of internet chest-thumpers...but you top them all, and you've been doing this for years. Mike Tyson once said that "social media has made it way y'all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it." When I saw this for the first time I thought of you. Just substitute social media for football message board.

I don't think you are a tough as you think you are. Seriously, when or how often do you make it to northern Colorado? Fort Collins, Boulder, etc? I have a pretty good idea for a wager, so if you have any integrity (I'm not sure you do), you will take it. It will shut you up for a while, and It doesn't have anything to do with money. I might DM you anyways with it. It's a good one.

Don't take it personally BSB. EG gave up internet betting after swearing he would make a major donation to MSU Athletics if Prukop went 300-200 in a single game. A couple weeks later he went 300-196 lol. I'd would have retired from Internet bets at that point too.

So just so I’m clear here, a fan of another team tells me I’m the one with social media issues for posting on my alma mater’s own message board about a COACH from another tram in the conference who threw a clipboard at a fan in anger?

Sure. Makes complete sense…

Also, I get to Denver and Boulder often. I see. I need to ever go to Greeley.

I can imagine BSB angrily writing this response from his one-room lean-to cabin, yards away from the still smoldering Great Greeley Tire Fire of 2007.

Think of the sheer amount of extra hours (i .e. months) an NCU fan has to sit around not burdened by thinking about or participating in the playoffs as compared to the fans of good teams.

I’m sure he spends that extra time practicing his hatchet throws, designing cool new NCU tats and plotting revenge against those that wronged the program.

Maybe BSB can solicit the help of the crack NCU Athletic Department Crisis Management Team (NCUADCMT) to talk him off the ledge.

P.S. EG—I wouldn’t open any packages left on your doorstep with your address printed in crayon.

So of this entire story, one which has embarrassed your program more than I even thought possible, EG calling your POS "offensive coordinator" Max OverChucker is what set you off?!

If I was a NCU fan I would be so mad at the entire situation. Your team FINALLY did something newsworthy, and it was a coach throwing a clipboard at a high schooler. Just when you think it couldn't get worse at NCU...it does.

To be clear BSB, I have no issues with you. I think you're a pretty good poster. I admit I talked a little crap when I read your prediction of NCU's record this season, or said that you had too much talent. But that was just football back and forth. But after witnessing that game Saturday, and the bush league play all afternoon, not even counting the clipboard throwing by a coach, I guess I lost the tiny little bit of respect I had for your program. I flipped from sympathy for you guys to anger. And then hearing the excuses made by your athletic department and head coach, I was baffled. I fully expect to see more of this kind of behavior from NCU going forward, and nothing done about it because you have a hometown hero as a head coach who I fully expect to hire every last one of his family members before all is said and done.

No doubt it’s the trash talk about tiny pants that made this story grow legs.

Solid work here.

And I too, ILTC, was somewhat alarmed that bsb seemed to lose his shit only when his clipboard winging OC was termed OverChucker, which is actually a callback slam against a former GRIZ QB.

But I guess when you’re a fan of a program who acts this way and then makes ridiculously embarrassing excuses to justify it there’s really only one response. Which would be to fully condemn the noco program, but I’m beginning to fear bsb isn’t man enough to stand up and do so.
