Classy quotes by Travis. Glad he represents the Griz so well by taking the high road.

Yikes. Eastern wins on the Griz home court without their best player and he can't give EWU even a little credit. Both teams played well last night, it was a good game, and it will be a good game in Cheney in a few weeks. Two of the top 3 or 4 teams in the conference for sure.

The spokesman had this in the paper today as well:

"Hayford said that upon arriving in Missoula on Wednesday, his players had read in a local newspaper that Montana coach Travis DeCuire called Eastern’s defense the worst in the Big Sky.

“That really fired them up, it was gas for the fire,” Hayford said. “I think we can get a lot better on defense, but we’re not the worst defense in the conference.”

Simply got beat by a better prepped, motivated team.

Don't fault the effort of our GRIZ, but obvious lack of focus did us in. We looked fast asleep on several defensive ends!

Sure the sometimes bonehead calls hurt us but getting out coached and out played is on coaches.

Did you see how truly bad most the turnovers were? Way too many lazy passes and players not protecting the ball on the dribble. Despite the turnovers, the GRIZ had quite a few assists too. The turnovers were not from bad strategy, but players not executing and being aware. Defensively, the rotations were not consistent, and too many defenders lost track of their defensive responsibility. That is a combination of coaching and the players. Dunn just was not there defensively against EWU. Credit EWU for giving a ball movement clinic against the GRIZ defense. Their passing and quick ball movement beat the GRIZ over and over all game. Harvey is their best scorer. However, in my opinion he is not their biggest key player. Drew Brandon is a very impressive player that does it all. Venky Jois just has damn knack for well timed blocks, and key offensive rebounds that keep possessions alive. If EWU loses either of those 2 players, they will struggle much more than with the loss of Harvey.
