Classless bitch UND fans. (from a UND alum)

UND fans give the opposing team plenty of raz on the sidelines but I dont see them spitting on anyone. Most UND fans are used to yelling at hockey games so I expect that not to change. If they ever spit on someone at the Ralph they would be banned for life.

As for hating people who wear other team's apparel, UND fans only hate Gopher apparel and sometimes Denver apparel. Other than that I know more UND fans have started hating seeing green and yellow Bison apparel. You will be fine wearing Griz apparel and I encourage as many Griz fans to come so we fill up the Alerus Center.

I know many UND fans who rooted for NDSU last year but withdrew support when their team said "Sioux Suck" at their championship rally. I think we all can agree that NDSU fans are the worst fans in that they are obnoxious, big-headed, unrealistic and stupid. Many have already bought tickets for Frisco because they didnt think there was any chance of not making it there. ISU had other plans and hats off to them!

UND hockey is ranked #2 in the nation and you don't see me buying frozen four tickets. Im smart enough to see if they will actually make it that far.

The relationship between Gopher and "Sioux" hockey fans are by far the most likely to result in incidents, especially when alcohol has been involved. Since NW Minnesota has a lot of Sioux fans, as does even Minneapolis-St Paul (with a ton of alumni there), and both normally challenge for conference and national leadership so there's a lot of emotion there. Denver isn't liked as a players neck has been broken by bad checks, their coach isn't liked, and DU is pretty good, but that's not generally many DU fans around. NDSU fans are mostly looked at as loud mouth boars, but things generally don't get too bad because some of them are relatives.

Even when UND and Grand Valley St football (coached by Brian Kelley now of Notre Dame) were almost annually involved in epic playoff matches a decade ago, there was never any fan incidents. Guess there was too much respect. The Alerus Center at that time would often reach an incredible decibel level where no verbal communication was possible, helped by the low ceiling. Would be awesome to get back to that level, but will probably take a home playoff game to do it.

If there was any incident toward the referees last week, it was probably precipitated by a blatant helmet to helmet hit on UND's QB that wasn't called and resulted in fumble and later a score by NAU. Many fans were absolutely livid, and this after numerous calls that the refs were mistaken on, didn't properly assess the penalty yardage, or initially assigned the penalty and yardage against the wrong team. Although the reffing was pathetic, nothing can justify spitting on them. The endzone balconies have fans almost directly above the refs so maybe the incident is possible. But police are also stationed there.

It is has to do with the vote/opinion of the local Native Americans. The Seminole tribe, for example, supports FSU being the Seminoles.

The NCAA required UND to have two tribes support the nickname. Spirit Lake supported the nickname, while Standing Rock (which is largely in South Dakota but headquartered in North Dakota) did not allow their people to vote. In Michigan, there are at least ten Chippewa tribes, and only the support of one was required for Central Michigan to remain the Chippewas. Schools like Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have been against the nickname, so they badly hurt UND even within the NCAA.

Buddy of mine worked the UND home game last week. Said UND fans SPIT on him. Keep in mind, UND fans, this is from a UND alum.

P.S. He cut off his donations until the "Fighting Sioux" name is re-instated. Granted, this is another story but he was not impressed w/ "his" hometown fans.

The fact your buddy cut his donations just because UND doesn't have the same NICKNAME anymore is certainly an indication he's not credible. A separate group (NCAA) ruled against the nickname and UND had no choice. Those individuals who stomp their feet and have a temper tantrum over some relatively insignificant situation shouldn’t call themselves "supporters" and "alumni"; they really are nothing more than arrogant fools and the university is better off without them.

To any Montana fans making the trip to the game this weekend, I can ensure you the overall atmosphere and fan behavior will be accommodating and you will enjoy game day in Forks.

Welcome to BSC refereeing. It is worse than most high school's.

Any poor bastard who decides to spit on either me or my family will have his nose rubbed in his own spit, and receive a dirty ass kicking. This warning courtesy of a real Sioux Indian. Gonna go to the game with my brothers and relatives from North Dakota. But I don't expect anyone to be that stupid. GO GRIZ!

WELL said............

For the past three years, UND mostly used Big Ten officials at home games, so the officials were barely noticed. Last Saturday, the Big Sky referees should more appropriately been wearing clown outfits.

The worst haters of UND are dual NDSU and Minnesota Gopher hockey fans: they are in their own class as far as classlessness. Lakesbison fits this category, as well as JBB. Both live in Minnesota and detest much about North Dakota (the state) except for NDSU.

I scratch my head a bit over the lack of support for the use of the Sioux nickname. I can understand it if was derogatory reference (like "Redskins"). If my heritage faced fading into obscurity like most of the Indian Tribes are then some free publicity, in fact reverance, would be welcomed. My heritage is Norwegian and German. Even though the Vikings were some pretty rotten people at times, I don't mind the use of the name. Of course "Nazis" wouldn't exactly fly -- and I wouldn't want it to. I guess my point is that use of a nickname doesn't seem to be all that bad of a thing. Maybe the compromise is to drop the "Fighting" part and just be the UND Sioux? Nah, that might give you the wrong impression about the Sioux people which would be... Wait, hold on, I'll think of something.

On North Dakota reservations (even Chippeaw or Mandan/arikara), the Sioux logo is very popular. The main opposition was UND professors, liberal left, and mainstrean politicians who didn't want to fight for it. There will likely be another statewide vote in 2014, all because the Spirit Lake reservation is fighting for the rights against the NCAA as well as gathering the nearly 30,000 signatures necessary to place the nickname on the ballot again.

What did Griz fans think of the Alerus environment?

The UND student turnout was dissappointing: their sections were largely empty. When UND lose and drop out of contention, the students largely abandon football. Griz fans filled about one section: maybe 600 or so fans.

The crowd energy at the Alerus still isn't anywhere at the level of our DII glory days, which would be like rock concerts. It will take a couple years of winning and playoff success.

Only saw the game on TV from here in MT but looked pretty good. May want to take a trip over there to watch the Griz play next time. Oh and I take back all those ND jokes I've told and heard over the years! :)

I thought it was a good football environment. Could have used more fans, but it is nice to be able to have a drink and watch football for sure. Love that facility as a whole and the blackjack tables paid off handsomely and were a nice surprise. P.S. The drinks were inexpensive and strong and we needed that!
