At the Metra in Billings last night, #1 ranked Lodge Grass vs #4 Lame Deer... score tied at 73 and featuring two of Montana's marquee young hoopers, Damon Gros Ventre (Lodge Grass) and Journey Emerson (Lame Deer).

They will most likely play in both the district and divisional championships and perhaps state. I think Colstrip usually hosts district so that will be a tough ticket. The divisional at Metra will be rocking.

Montana Class B Lame Deer and Lodge Grass draw 6K+ fans to each of two games played 60+ miles from either town within a week of each other. Will a Big Sky team draw 6K+ to any home game this season?

No, because none of them have as rabid a fan base. Good for both teams!

The one with absolutely no ball handling ability is the same dude you guys claimed should go D1? He can’t even beat MT low class competition off the dribble and you’d take him over someone putting up 20 a game in a competitive Cali league? Are we serious?

And you're not.

Pretty evenly divided, I'd say ... although I didn't try to keep track of who did (or didn't) do what. After about six turnovers -- due to wretched ball handling -- in that short sequence, I kinda lost track.

But it was very exciting.

Your basketball knowledge might be even lower than your IQ, not a D1 player. Frontier is a stretch! I know you are a big fan of Lodge Grass, my advice, enjoy the entertainment and cheer loud as i know you do. Unfortunately, for most high schoolers the ride will likely be over in March…

And your BB knowledge super high! So tell us how John Solomon, Downtown Freddie III, Cooper Kriegmont, Jack Wetzel, and Trey Lawrence will pan out in their careers. And this infatuation with "Cali Ball....how's it going for Vazquez and Owens and Timmy Falls and Gaskin and Egun and Steadman and Henderson? Where are Selcuk, Briceno, and Peter Jones? Will (or did) any of these mentioned players have careers like Kevin Criswell, Kirk Walker, Ryan Dick, Jared Samuelson, Kendall Manuel or Matt Kempfert?

Agree with everything you just wrote! You have me mistaken for someone else, i have consistently been an advocate for Montana kids and have been ridiculed by many on this site! I even said in a previous thread about Gros Ventre, that i would much rather him get a walk-on than someone from Cali, Washington or Alaska. As i stated before, almost all walk-ons have zero chance of seeing meaningful minutes, so why not have them be Montana kids.

I was stating in this thread that after watching Gros Ventre, he is not a D1 talent. My opinion is based on watching about 5 minutes of film that exposed a player that is a great high schooler, however lacks the speed, athleticism and muscle twitch that a D1 recruit has. Just being honest, sorry you don't like my opinion

I've not seen him play or watched any highlights so not touting him specifically. Tired of looking at guys at the end of the bench (or former starters that will leave after this season) who don't play much and have vested interest in "Montana". This guy scored 70+ in a game.....at least he'd shoot and make lots of 3s in warm ups!

Agree, like i said in previous thread, i would rather see him on end of bench than who they have now. Who knows, maybe he would develop if given a chance. Honestly, i just like to see some Montana kids names in program, even if they are practice players.

Maybe some Montana kids who don't play high level "Cali ball" have a higher ceiling after HS than kids like Vazquez and Owens and DCH. I like all three but which one has truly "improved" from their freshman season. They are all third year in Missoula.

And I've asked this question before and don't know the answer. Seems I see one or more of these high level Cali ball guys hanging around Missoula in the summer. How do they get better if they aren't back in Cali playing high level ball against all kinds of D1, pro and other "city" players. Maybe they are but why don't they get better?

It's a nuanced discussion when it comes to recruiting. Relationships get built with high level AAU programs when you mine players from areas like NoCal and Seattle Metro. Travis and his staff know what they're doing.

My only complaint is how badly they botched the recruitment of Rollie Worster, who is a once every 20 year kid out of Missoula. If they would've massaged his situation a little better, the Griz might be a top 100 in KenPom rather than sitting around 200.

A footnote to this is that Rayquan Evans is killing it in the ACC and he should've been a Griz instead of going to a juco. And finally, Darko-Kelly was another Missoula kid who is a once every 20 year player, and he wanted to be a Griz but the staff said no dice.

2 kids who are both "once every 20 year" talents at the same time? How is that possible?

Ya its’s unlikely, however it just happened. Coppergold got this thread right for a change. Could very easily go twenty years without having talent like those two in Missoula high schools. Rayquan also should have been signed out of high school.

Not landing locals on top of the product on the floor, is making it hard for me to get excited about Griz hoops going forward. Apparently, judging by our crowds at games, others are also
