citay's dream schedule

1. a major tournament where we get three games in three nights (thus emulating the big sky tournament) against quality opposition. of course, i have no beef with the orlando tournament, can hardly wait to see us on national tv, and will lavish kudos (as i alrady have) on whoever got 'er done. and if we were to play in a second major pre-season tournament, i wouldn't mind that either.

2. at least two or three more games against high-profile teams outside our geographical area. the past several years we've played stanford, washington, auburn, missouri, purdue and baylor. i know these will have to be road games; so be it. i was hoping for two such games this year, got none.

3. at least one home-and-home series against one of our traditional area rivals, such as wyoming, utah state, idaho, gonzaga, colorado state, nevada, boise state, washington state. don't know if we can get these games, but remember, we're talkin' dream schedule here. we get boise state at home and wyoming on the road but no other games against these schools, and don't know if wyoming is home-and-home or not.

4. all remaining games from conferences such as the west coast athletic conference, mid-american conference, missouri valley conference, where we have traditionally been able to score home-and-home series. this pool would include former foes such as pacific, st. mary's, san francisco, santa barbara, southeast missouri state, northern iowa, san jose state, illinois-chicago, eastern michigan and whoever else we can get, but not....

5. ANY n.a.i.a. teams! EVER! if we're required by montana law to play these teams, we should begin immediately a major campaign to vote these suckers out of office. you simply cannot bring in two three-star recruits (selvig and rundles) plus a junior college all-american (chase) plus one of the most promising young players in australia (vanderjagt) and then ask them to play teams with monikers like orediggers and northern lights. it's...a...TRAVESTY!

yeah, i just remembered--wasn't grizzly nation P.O.'d at even the hint of us playing carroll in football? shouldn't the same be true of basketball? and wasn't it jim o'day who had to be talked out of this preposterous idea?

Strictly as a fan and long time season ticket holder, I don't mind playing an NAIA team in an "exhibition" at the beginning of the season. However, I can't say that I am pleased with having 2 more of them on the regular season schedule. One would be OK, but not 2. I know I am greatly relieved that I don't have to "look forward to" a walkover football game this season such as the Ft. Lewis game last season. That was awful and not at all competitive. :twocents:

Then again, it was an NAIA school that beat MSU 91-69 in an 'exhibition game' last year (01 Nov 05) in women's BB. Not much of an upset, I guess, considering it was MSU.
