Choate/Stitt at 3 Years

To me, it's all about a difference in expectations. Despite the debacle with Pflugrad and the "pinch-hitter" that followed, Griz fans expect UM to be competitive at a high level.
Everything I saw in televised interviews, and comments from people who actually met Stitt around town, say he was a personable fellow and a pretty classy guy. He clearly cared deeply for his players, and they returned the feeling. But, while Stitt had a winning record ... he could not beat the 'cats. Worse yet, he did not seem to bleed because his team could not win against MSU (for many, that was not acceptable). Realistically, he probably had a better handle than most on the place of college athletics in the academic environment (for some, that too was unacceptable).
I'm actually at a loss to understand the fixation that so many on this board seem to have with Stitt. He came, he coached, he won games (more than he lost) ... but he's long gone. For Chrissakes folks ... get over it!

A lot of truth there ... but not an inevitable truth. If one values "nice" over getting the job done, then you will, perhaps not finish last, but also not reach the top. From all reports, John Wooden (UCLA basketball, for the younger set) was one of the nicest human beings you would ever hope to meet. But he was ready to make the hard individual decisions that it sometimes takes to foster team success.alabamagrizzly said:

Choate was 8-5 this year, with a playoff win and win over Griz. 3 wins in a row in the rivalry game. He took over a 5-6 team that had just lost to the Griz 54-35, not been to the playoffs for several years, and was trending down down.
Stitt, in year 3, was 7-4 with a loss to the Cats, and no playoffs, for 2 years in a row. Ranked in the top 30's. Had taken over a team that had been ranked no. 12 and no. 8, gone to the playoffs, and beaten the Cats, the last 2 years.
It's both results in year 3, trajectory, and beating the Griz.
Don't know why it's so hard for some of you to see that.
