cherry game!

will cherry's line last night against skyline, the number two team in his league: 19 points, 10 assists, 11 steals, nine rebounds--one short of a quadruple double. and all that while taking a seat on the bench with over three minutes left in the game, and his team up 70-40. if he's not a candidate for player of the year in the bay area, mickey rourke should not win an oscar for "the wrestler."

Thanks for posting City!! WOW.... not much more to be said.... the numbers speak for his performance......He can't get to Missoula soon enough IMO

Wow is right looks like the type of player who does not need to score to have a major impact on the outcome of a game. Difference is he can score.

Seeing what Damian Lillard is doing as a freahman at weber can we expect the same kind of contribution from Will. They are both 6'1" scoring point guards from the oakland area. Lillard scored more in high school while it looks like Will plays for a better team and doesnt have to. Will has a higher rating but it looks as though Lillard was much more highly recruited. Have not seen Will play other than a few highlights and only seen Lillard twice dont know if their games are similar or not, sounds like Lillard might be a better shooter. Will looks to be a better defender/athlete from what i here.

Just thought it could be an interesting comparison?

cherry plays for mcclymonds and lillard played for oakland high, both members of the oakland athletic association, so i'm sure they squared off many times, both in league and on the playgrounds. lillard averaged 28 per his senior year, with a high game in the 40's, but cherry probably has the better all-round game. should be fun to watch these two square off next year.

Watching the McClymonds v Fremont game on TV. I'm by no means a roundball junkie or an experienced evaluator of talent, but Cherry looks like a PG to me. He is very efficient and confident with the ball and looks like a great passer. Some no-look passes, dishing it all over. His man to man defense has been great as well. The highlight of the game, though, has been his fast break, contested, poster-style one-handed dunk while the announcer yelled "and THAT'S why he's going to the University of Montana!!"

All the scholarships are spoken for, but if any of the Griz players decide to transfer this offseason Tinkle should make a run at Cherry's teammate SF Damon Powell. I don't know if he has the grades or not, but the guy is stacked and plays with more intensity and effort than any player I've seen in a while. 6'6'', about a 40" vert, and is all over the place. Very aggressive. Made a leap to attempt a block on a fast break and almost hit his head on the rim.

so with cherry coming in, stockton looks like the backup pg for the foreseeable future. Can anyone compare their games?

I will not compare their games, but it will be interesting to see what Tinkle does with all the Guards. They also bring alot of different games and skills. If the roster stays set here are our guards: AJ, Stauds, Taylor, Stockton, and Cherry. The trick will be getting time for them. Stauds and Taylor will see time at the 3 in 3 guard lineups. Stockton will often be responsible for the 1/2 courts sets. I am impressed by his floor skills and passing, at least from the little we have seen of him. AJ will be a combo guard on the offense, and pressure guard on defense. Cherry, will be our primary defensive guard teamed with anyone but AJ. With AJ they will rotate defensively. I for one cannot wait to see those 2 team up. Defensively they should be a nightmare. Offensively, they both are capable of doing it all, and getting the opposition in foul trouble. (How does Cherry shoot FT's?)

Offensively, I expect the likes of Stauds, Taylor, Mcgillis, and Selvig have to be licking their chops in spotting up from 3. We have alot of guards can distribute the ball well. McGilis and Selvig are also very good passers. Taylor and Stauds are capable of being the best 3 pt shooting tandem in the league. They both have great form and can stroke the 3.

Wow, I just realized, Offensively we have all types of players to be very good. We have multiple shooters, penetrators, and passers. If Qvale, Selvig, Ward, Huchinson, Wood, and McGillis can give us inside scoring, this offense will be as versatile and dangersous we have seen in a long time. They are also solid defensively.

Here is to hoping we do not lose anyone and Tinks can distribute the minutes to keep everyone happy.

lets get that damon powell

Did a little research on him.

ESPN has him ranked as the #33 small forward in this year's class :o

Problem is, recruiting sites have him at 6'6 when a youtube comment (and his video) say he's 6'3.

I'm sure that scared off the programs (Oregon and Washington) that he was really hoping to play for.

I don't see him with any other offers. Might be a grades thing, might be a nothing, if it's a size issue, we should take a chance on him. It's not like being an undersized forrward is a factor in this league.

This video was from his junior year, and what youtube comment are you referring to, the one saying he was "even 6'3'' back in 03-04"? He's a legit 6'6''. Maaaaybe 6'5'' conservatively. With no cited offers on scout or rivals, I'm guessing grades.
