Cherry announced as Big Sky D POY

Yeah, I didn't see an HM list, but was wondering if Ward had made that. Not sure why he wouldn't, he had a pretty good year on a pretty good team.

Comment From James
I was gonna vouch for Weber State as a serious sleeper but it looks like Montana is challenging their bid right now, might be too early.

Myron Medcalf:
Too early, James. Let's see what happens.

Myron Medcalf:
Montana crushed Weber State Tuesday. Damian Lillard? How about Will Cherry?

Comment From James
Eamonn, I feel like casual fans have gotten to the point where they'll accept the most hyped midmajor in a given year as long as they're not a 1 seed.

Eamonn Brennan:
James: Everyone's a basketball hipster, these days. Wichita State? Saw 'em in December. Liked 'em before they got big. I've moved on, bro -- really big into Montana right now.

Myron Medcalf:
Grizzlies haven't lost since Jan. 14. Another example of a team that's improved in the second half of the conference slate.

Eamonn Brennan:
"Have you seen Montana play? Aw, I caught them on a late-night OLN broadcast. In mid-January. Pretty chill."

Wow. Me Likey! :thumb:

No he didnt make it. Go to Big Sky site, and click on the pdf file. They are listed there if I recall correctly. He is not though.

I used to have season's tickets when Sugar was playing for the Griz, and I remember him playing PG. Certainly an unconventional PG, but he handled the ball most of the time for the Griz.

But let's settle this by asking the man himself, the greatest PG who ever played for the Griz -- and, well, the greatest PG who ever played in the Big Sky.

So what position did you play, Michael Ray?

"When I was in school at Montana..., I played point guard."

You're welcome.

Wow, I wasn't able to watch every MRR game in person, but I remember Jimmy Molloy as PG and MRR as 2 guard. Just sayin.

Are you calling Michael Ray a liar? :o :)

Remember, he was at UM for a number of years, and they used him in a number of configurations and with different players. And after all these years, it is, admittedly, a bit fuzzy to me. But I recall that he often brought the ball down, and he often started things off on offensive sets. The idea being he would drive to the basket, pull up for a jumper, or dish it off to another player. And of course this was very effective.

And then on the other end of the court, he was a wicked defensive player, with those long arms. He could block shots or get steals and then drive to the end to slam the ball. And it wasn't unusual in those days to have 10K or more rowdy fans in the seats. Fun stuff.

Based on how MRR was used, then can we consider Jamar a PG too? He does things too, and is used in many ways. Can we also call Jamar a PF? We use him to post up, and he does it well.

Yes, MRR did play PG, but not full time. Cherry has done it for 3 years, and done it better than any PG in GRIZ history.
