Chants preparing mentally, physically for frigid forecast

Offensive coordinator Dave Patenaude talked about the adjustment his guys will have to overcome in catching and gripping a cold football, but he is not worried about it affecting the Chants’ production.

“It really just becomes a mental thing more than a physical thing,” he said.

Of course, some of Coastal’s players learned that lesson the hard way a couple years ago when the team visited Stony Brook on a wet, windy and bitterly cold day. The Chants never adjusted and lost that game 42-0.

It was only in the 30s that day – not the single-digits – but the team was ill prepared with equipment to combat the weather, and that’s one key difference the Chants are hoping will serve them better this time.

Senior safety LaDarius Hawthorne, for one, shares Patenaude’s philosophy on the situation.

“I know it’s going to be cold,” he said. “When I think about it, I feel like we’re all created the same. They’re human, just like I’m a human, so if they can go out there and take it, we can go out there and take it.”

Are you prepared for the coldest wind chills in at least 5 years!?

If you are going to be outside Friday or Saturday (December 6th and 7th) be prepared for dangerous wind chills of at least -20 to -30 degrees F. The coldest wind chills will be in Missoula (especially downtown), Kalispell, Butte, and all locations along the divide.

Frostbite is a huge concern during these days especially since the very cold wind chills will last 18 to 24 hours.

Here is some information from the Center of Disease Control to help with preparation and awareness.

Once it gets that cold there is zero acclimation advantage unless there's antifreeze running through their fingers.

The Chants should request to be allowed to sleep outside on WA-Griz field Friday night, that would help them acclimate both mentally and physically. They could also ask that the sound system be cranked up to help them get used to the noise. It only seems fair since the NCAA won't let us play on a milder, neutral field.

They learned their lesson! Look out ...guess since they took that 42 point beating now they are prepared for possible -20 to -30 below windchills! haha YA RIGHT (not that anybody can prepare for that) but now they are mentally tough? that is laughable

Meanwhile, somewhere under section 106 at 12:05 Saturday...
