You have a great O line coach and a good man in Chad Germer, Dood--he and Aaron Best were the O line coaches on the last 2 Big Sky schools to win the FCS/1-AA NC, us in 2001and you in 2010. Now if you can just play some defense, Eastern will be towards the top of the conference again !!!

Probably had more to do with the RPO offense we are running now. It's a completely different style of OL play than even your traditional spread. RPO is limited to the rule set of lineman down field so you are never really able to blow someone up downhill in case QB pulls and throws the ball.
Amazing how some have such short and biased memories.
While a helluva player and very good BH1 coach - Germer coached neither the spread nor the RPO O-lines well. He just didn't. Bobby obviously agreed after he got past his loyalty yoke.
But, good for Germer - has a chance to come back strong. I won't cheer for the Eags, but, I'll cheer for Germer's success.

what are your thoughts on RPO offense? Do you think OL like playing in that scheme compared to a spread or pro style? Do you think style of play has anything to do while a player is considering a school over another other than NIL? I have never played OL so I am generally curious if this is a style of play OL prefer. Do you think it is easier to develop and coach RPO scheme for the OL?
I think offensive linemen generally like to run block...downhill, pancake style.
But, there are few teams that don't run a version of RPO now. The best o-linemen are athletic and can execute in the offense they are in.
I just don't think Germer adapted to the changes well. He certainly did not benefit from the transition from Stitt to BH2. He also experienced a crazy amount of position attrition from retirement / transfer / injury. At least some of that was out of his control.
Hope he does well at ewu. He is a Griz legend.
Since it’s clearly been pointed out by many that he struggled when coaching in a spread/RPO/ modern offense vs a downhill style of yesteryear. How would you guys describe EWU’s style of offense and anticipate him to succeed in such? Maybe Best is the key in changing his coaching and mentality?
I agree with many he should be cheered for his role in the success of the 2000’s and I believe he got more leash than most would have over his most recent stint here. It was time to move on. I think he’s a good guy and I wish him well with the eags.

Good point - but still, I can't just help but feel like Best completely run EWU into the ground and undid a ton of progress in terms of fan support from the 2010s. At least our attendance, while not selling out, is in general above what we had in the early 2000s. Used to be that only Montana/Montana State would fill the stadium, but even UC David had an attendance of ~7.5k which isn't great by Griz standards, but in the early 2000's such a game might've drown half that.
Edit - Ok I stand corrected on the UC Davis attendance - 2005 was 5.3k and 2007 was 4.2k. So not quite half.
One feather in Germer's cap that isn't mentioned often enough is taking Dylan Cook, a Montana kid who played QB in high school and went to Havre to play Quarterback at Northern, and developed him into an NFL caliber offensive lineman in just two seasons (with Covid thrown in the middle of it). I like what we have, but will always wish Germer the best, and that little note in his career of developing kids is something he should be proud of.
