Cats vs ucd

Jesus that was a hell of a bounce on the onside kick! Perfectly executed. Bad play call on the 2 point try. I would’ve gone either outside zone with Larison or some form of a trick play. I think it’s ok to get cute in that situation.

2 bad turnovers and a punt return were the difference in this game. The pick was a little fluky but that was a bad fumble by Hastings. My general takeaway is the cats secondary is a little vulnerable, but the problem is their pass rush and their front 7 is so good that the QB hardly has any time to get rid of the ball. I think the Griz need to dial up a lot of screen passes and check downs. The quicker Fife can get the ball out, the better. Lots of come back and 5 yard out routes towards the sideline would be good.

As for the cat offense, I don’t think they’re gonna pass as much against us cause they’re probably gonna carve us up on the ground. Davis was spying Tommy hard tonight, but I don’t think he ran it once. Humphrey is gonna destroy us and idk if loading the box will even be enough to stop him.

I’d like to think we can hang in there with them next week but I just don’t see how we do it. I think we have to go with the Idaho game plan of long, methodical drives on offense but with how fast the cats can score, I’m not sure it will matter

Humphrey had 30 yards, and most of that on one carry. Averaged 4.3 per carry. 7 carries. Davis had 91. Will Humphrey ride the bench

I think Humphrey got dinged up and they kept him out in the second half. Their depth at RB makes it not a problem.

Probably, considering he was injured.
Not a medical professional, however, don’t think it was anything major. However, I think Julius is better suited for the Griz game, last year he was the only player continuing to play with fire in the Massacre in Missoula. Let him run angry.

No. 11 Georgia beat No. 7 Tenn yesterday. 3-win (?) UNM beat No. 20 Wash. St.

If the Griz play very well, I won't be surprised. Other than that, I agree with Hornet. I don't understand why fans are so negative and just can't imagine anything other than a blowout by the Cats.

Hopefully, Fife is now the QB. Hopefully, White will be back. Hopefully, Bergen can return kicks and play more. Meyer will be back. The D has now had 4 good or pretty good games in a row, after giving up huge points in several games and making a ton of big mistakes, especially in coverage. Despite PSU having the ball 39 minutes, and the O having some bad turnovers, the D gave up only 2 TD's, one of which occurred when the UM defender fell. The supposed great running PSU QB didn't hurt us.

Weber stayed within 7 of Idaho. NAU is now 7-4. UND lost to SD 42-36. UND led 21-17 at the half.

Except for those receivers, the Griz seem reasonably healthy for this time of the season, at least compared to some teams. Is our o-line healthy? I assume our nose guard Pat is getting back up to speed, after losing his dad 2 weeks ago and missing a full week of practice. Bummer for him. He's a great kid.

A number of the D players seem to be playing very well. Tackling has been good. Big mistakes have been reduced in the last month, for the most part.

The UM D scheme last season, apparently designed mostly by T. Hauck, worked very well. While this year's D isn't as good as last year's D, last year's D sure shut down the Cat O. I assume the D scheme will be good this year too. I guess we'll see if this year's D players are up to the task.

The O has to perform. Can't sputter like recent games, and first half yesterday. Hopefully, Bergen can be the returner. And, the O needs to protect the QB's. Can't let MSU did what they did to Davis.

Our pass D can't be caught sleeping, but otherwise should be able to defend the Cats' passing. And Mellott, while not running much this season, can still scoot for good and long runs, and is obviously dangerous. He's passing better and not throwing picks. He seems to hit some nice passes, and then completely miss other ones.

Some Davis comparisons, which are not dispositive of anything but interesting: Larison had 112, and averaged 4.9 against Cats. 221 of all purpose yards. Against Griz, Larison had 99 yards of rushing, for 4.0 per carry. Looks like he had 147 of rushing and pass catching.

Davis got 414 of TO against Cats; and Hastings had 320 yards of passing. Davis got 386 of TO and 259 yards of passing yardage against UM.

Davis scored 30 against Griz. Scored 28 against Cats. The big difference was that Griz didn't score much against Davis, and Cats did.

Not huge differences, but it's not like Davis ran over the Griz, and the Griz couldn't stop them.

The Griz have very good coaches. I assume the Cats do too.

I look forward to the game. I'm always hopeful and positive, and I always think there's a way for my team to win.

Did they? How so? I nodded off for a bit right around the start of the 4th Q.
Conservative play calling that was clearly designed to just run out the clock. Didn’t go for it on 4th and 1. None of it was egregious and generally a fair strategy when you have confidence in your defense.

Pick up a couple more 1st downs and the coaches are geniuses, don’t and the coaches took their foot off the gas. Standard message board analysis…
