Thanks ILTC! As always, full of class!

And frankly, I was actually impressed with the crowd MSU got last night. As Jon said, there was literally nothing at stake but pride. I'm not sure I would have ventured out on a Monday to watch it.

i think more came out because they knew we actually could win this one!

it's a sad state of affairs surrounding this program right now, but it was nice to see this team get a win. at this point, they could have scheduled a scrimmage with the bozeman hawks and some of us would have still been relieved to get a "W" instead of a "L". assuming the cat would win..... :o

Go beat PSU.

Hopefully this win gave the team some momentum. Finishing in the top four would be great, and I think MSU has the talent to beat PSU. After all, we know there won't be more than 700 at that game.
Does PSU have the stupid screen in the corner that reflects off the floor or is that Sac St.?

Cats still sell tickets, butts in seats is another story. Also, if the Cats had a team like the Griz the Cat fans would be sitting around waiting for a February fade. So I say no.
Shit, you had a number one team, defending Champion, playoff football team and didn't pack the smaller new and improved litter box. So I'd say the cats have some problems in regards to fan base.
All fan bases are Fairweather including the great and mighty Cat fan base.

this is hardly even worth replying to because the old "attendance vs attendance" debates get really old. i am very happy with the support our football team gets. i don't care if we don't have the attendance the griz do at football games. you guys have been good for a very long time, and with a bigger stadium there is no way you SHOULDN'T have better attendance.

this was a thread that was discussing basketball. i just found it amusing to actually hear a griz fan mock our attendance last night. we have an awful team this year and an even worse coach. you guys have the opposite. you have the best team and probably the coach of the year....yet our attendance is nearly identical. if you don't see the irony in that...i can't help you.

of course all fan bases have fairweather fans. i've been beating this drum for years, and am on record saying that fan bases NEED these fans to thrive. it just seems to me that pointing to a team that has won like 6 games in the conference, and rattled off 8 straight losses wouldn't be the team i'd start with when i'm discussing fairweather fans. hell....the weather couldn't be any more fair in missoula with your hoops team....and you guys still don't care. :?

Dont know if there is larger group of bandwagon fans than down at msu.

give me a break. you guys are actually averaging LESS than the cats in attendance as of this morning! of course this will go up after your game tonight but give me a break. even after tonights game you guys will still barely be averaging more than the cats. and this is with one of the best griz teams i have ever seen. you guys are 14-1 and have won like 11 straight. and even then you are barely drawing more than my 6-9 cats who finally snapped an 8-game losing streak.

i know some of you are just playing. i realize others love seeing the cats doing so poorly. i can respect that. but we have a VERY supportive fanbase. your TEAM is having an amazing season, but if there is one thing you shouldn't be talking smack about....it's attendance. you guys barely outdraw any other team in the conference....despite being the best team.

Could the fishing get any easier?

Helping you guys out. Smaller as in MSU stadium holds less people than Wash Griz so you should have a higher Percentage of Capacity. UM 98.71 MSU 96.03. You'd think Cat fans would rock the house full all the time. second point I love how cat fans compare stat's in football before the cats play the griz then fade away after they play the griz. Same goes with Basketball attendance. Hey lets compare attendance before the Griz get to host MSU and Weber since we don't want the Griz having 2 full houses averaged in. Cat fans have been using the Fair weather fan thing for 30 years. Now they get upset?

again...not sure how this has anything to do with football....and not even sure who this is directed to. this will shock you, but i don't share the opinion of all cat fans on every matter just because we happen to like the same school. do you agree with everything growler offers up? how about playerrep? are you guys one and the same? grizzoula? seems to me i could address you in broad terms as well but that wouldn't get us anywhere would it....?

second, I'M not upset about fans using the fairweather thing. I'M one who has said all teams have these fans. I'M the one who has said we need these fans. I'M also the one pointing out that a griz fan talking smack about hoops attendance is ridiculous. you guys barely outdraw us....and your team is ten times better. even your own fans agree with that point.

finally, not sure what you are talking about comparing basketball attendance before you host msu and weber. last i checked you just hosted us this weekend. and i already pointed out your numbers will change after tonights game. can't be much clearer than that. but even if you get 5,000 tonight, the yearly averages for both of us won't be different than by a couple hundred. seems to me, if your fans are clearly so supportive and so much better than the cats....a 15 win team and a 6 win team wouldn't be so similar in attendance figures.

but what do i know? :msugrad:

Couple Hundred. Last I checked MSU 3228 UM 3996. Sell out tonight puts it at about 4183. So 900 not a couple of Hundred. Tournement may push it further? I agree with you argument, just hated the "Cat fans are above being fairweather fans comment" or that's how it came across to me.

As of right now, attendance averages in the Big Sky are thus

1. Weber State- 6,771
2. Montana- 3,489
3. Montana State- 2,922
4. Eastern Washington- 2,304
5. Idaho State- 2,255
6. Northern Colorado- 1,592
7. Portland State- 848
8. Sacramento State- 648
9. Northern Arizona- 646

Montana, Eastern Washington and Portland State have one last home game left.

ya that was my fault. combined both home and away attendance in my numbers. although, my initial point in response to the guy with nothing better to do than "fish" remains the same. griz fans shouldn't ever say anything to cat fans about hoops attendance. the only team that has good attendance in this league is weber...and it's not even close.

but in relation to attendance and wins....cats are doing pretty good. it shows that despite horrible play and coaching, they still have decent support from their fans. we won 7 games at home this year. you guys won 13 and will probably be 14 when all is said and done. that means nearly 5,500 cat fans were in attendance during our wins....and barely over 4,000 for griz wins. ;)

bottom line....this hoops season has been awful for cat fans. and the last few seasons as well. say what you want about the team and coaches. hell say what you want about the fans. but that is pretty good evidence of fan support when the product on the court doesn't hold up its end of the bargain! you guys seem to be the opposite. your team is very good...and very fun to watch...yet many are finding other things to do.

I contend. Both MSU or UM having a bad year 3000K Good year 4000K with crowds getting larger and larger as they catch on. This Griz team didn't click till conference play. So we'll just disagree. It's Basketball IMO and much of the country is turning it off. I see no proof that cat fans are the bomb. What is the Griz average attendance per loss? 20K what does that prove?

No fanbase is above fairweather fans. BN has exploded with new people in the last couple of years because of recent success. If things go south, they'll most likely disappear. Regardless if the team is good or terrible, I will support them.
I think the comments lie with some who only become Griz fans around Cat/Griz, talk shit, then go away. Lot's of kids I went to HS with are this way. Not really fans, but when the game rolls around, they rev up.

Hey I was at the Grocery store saturday and the clerk told me the cats would ruin the Griz hosting chances. I asked him to name one cat basketball player. chirp chirp chirp. Shit most die hard cat fans can't even name a basketball player man or women.

A few people will get this.

i posted one of these babies ;) in hopes you'd see i was just screwing with numbers. bottom line, if the cats were 14-1 right now and were getting 3500 fans i'd be really annoyed. like i know some griz fans are as they have mentioned such numerous times on this very board.

in my case, my team has one half that many games, so i am far more concerened with our play and coaching than i am the 3,000 fans that go to the games....

Yes, as a Griz fan annoyed with the attendance. Very happy the last 3 nights. As a Basketball fan I'm annoyed with attendance but understand that the NBA is ruining everything by marketing players instead of teams, playing ball the way they do.

With that attendance where are all the move up people....if football goes up, so does basketball right? :?
