Heard Chokes presser on portal.....paraphrased but kids are quitters, little cold weather shouldn't be a reason to bolt. Interesting that UM didn't have a portal exodus despite cold weather.....

Either he needs to quit signing kids that cant handle the cold or expect more in future

My opinion is isn't just the cold that caused his defections.....

Was at the presser and that is not what he said. He was talking in generalities about the Portal. He did not speak to any specific defections. He did not say kids are quitters. He said the Portal makes it to easy for kids to quit. Your posting is more fake news. He talked about the effect this Portal will have on college football in response to a question about it in general from the press. And, he was right-on.
Hold up a sec. Choach said The Portal makes quitting easier?
You mean to tell me that your sorry-ass choach took the same bitch-n-moan position as your pussy ass regarding The Portal? I thought your complaints about losing control over an indentured servant were ludicrous. But likely just stupid babble from some dumb cat fan who was crying over the reality of your crappy program and how easy it is to bamboozle young kids during the summer. But come to find out, you’re just a brainless parrot regurgitating his master’s rant? Wow.

You call players indentured servants. When you get 4 years of education, worth over $150,000 easy, you are not an indentured servant. That is a benefit for a lifetime.

The Portal is not about MSU or Choate. It is about college football in general. Choate just gave his opinion in response to a question about it from the press.

Four years at MSU costs $150,000? Holy fuck.

Non-resident estimated costs is $40,000+/year so it's more like $160,000.

Do you "feel" there is a particular reason that coach Choade insists that recruiting kids with quiter characteristics is sound policy?

Funny how the kids that probably dislike the staff, the area, the situation, etc and decide to move on are “quitters” according to Choate, but when Choate himself yanks a committed offer out from unde the feet of a high school senior then there’s no issues and cats fans defend it. I swear Choate could stab one of their kids and they say “well he probably deserved it”

Hooked, it must be tough when you always rant about how bad a coach Choate is when he has owned the Griz in the three years he has been at MSU.

You are taking what he said and as usual twisting it around. It is either that or you have a comprehension problem. You have really missed the point of what he said when he answered the question by the press. What else is new!

It's amazing how those against the Transfer Portal are also those who obviously resent the fact a few kids receive scholarships and have worked their tails off in order to get that "free" education are, by and large, the same ones who are adamently opposed to moving programs forward. They also want to keep the athletic programs at the FCS level while former conference schools such as Boise, Nevada and Gonzaga have moved up and on with their programs.

I appreciate those schools that chose to lobby and fight the NCAA for Full Cost of Attendance, the new redshirt rule and stipends. Amazingly they are the Power 5 schools. Those against taking care of the kids are the podunk programs.

Not true. I've always been all for kids having more freedom and am even on record saying that I think they should be granted some money in addition to scholarships.

That said, the more I learn about both the portal as well as full cost of attendance I think both go a bit too far. We're essentially making every player who wants to be a free agent. They can transfer at any time to any school that will have them. I think it has the makings to be pretty messy going forward.

My opinion is the same about cost of attendance. I'm all for kids getting some extra cash in addition to schollies. However, in many cases we're talking about anywhere from $1500-$3000 a month. These kids are making up to $30,000 grand a year in addition to scholarship all the while being free to leave at any time. It's a slippery slope for sure.

Where do schools get the money to pay cost of attendance? The Montana schools do not have the funds.

Do you think there's many kids in the Power 5 schools who enter the TP that are not positioning themselves for better draft day possibilities? Those in the FCOA schools such as the Dakotas at our level probably have few who have entered the portal and those that do are viewing it from a business perspective.

Again, virtually all the Power 5 school's athletic departments are run by their foundations away from the institution itself and hence the reality of bookkeeping. The better the accountants, the bigger the losses in the departments. Great non-profit management training in those schools. The rest of us are dependent upon a bunch of governmental accountants and a few washed up lawyers.

Georgia came under intense scrutiny by the NCAA when they began offering so many academic scholarships via the HOPE Scholarships and that "free" education those kids receive established a pretty good model for many other states.

But as I stated, those with the mindset an athletic scholarship is "free" are those satisfied with podunk intramural level teams. The Transfer Portal will provide a kid an opportunity to see how they measure against the very best. If there's anything wrong with a kid who wants to compete against the very best, then I guess we need to fill these stadiums with soccer instead of football kind of like Hellgate High School in Missoula.

Hey fuck tard his exact verbiage was “the portal is making it easy for kids to quit”. Funny how he can yank scholarships out from under committed recruits with no problem but now he whines and bitches when he has some guys leave. What a pussy

It's definitely not a good look for Choach, that's for sure to any objective observer. The more level headed bobcat posters likely agree.

You're right, kids don't need a portal to transfer! 8-)
So is it the portal’s fault that Jeremy quit our team?

Or are you saying the bobcat players really wanted to be playing in Bozeman, but it’s Choach’s fault they can’t?

I’m genuinely confused as to what Calhoun has to do with any of this.

If you read the post, I said explicitly that Calhoun did NOT leave the program because of the portal. He JUST left!!!

I am no fan of the portal, but this thread is ridiculous and J.C. was a reminder that kids leave PROGRAMS, griz included for a variety of reasons, some are portal driven, others don't like the coach, others...just quit!

It's possible they're not. I'd like to hear from Colter or Brooks because I believe they heard the same figures. If they are much smaller than I suggested than I don't have any issues. But if those numbers are correct or close to correct that seems like a slippery slope to start down.

Right, but the whole point of this thread is that an unusual volume of players have left MSU, especially kids that haven't been there very long, and Jeremy Calhoun leaving because he couldn't get a redshirt doesn't make your 10 or so departures in the last year normal.
