Cats in Transfer Portal

Yeah, seasonal depression in the mountains is legit. Spring and Fall in Missoula are absolutely amazing. Summer was fine. But winter? It was terrible. Didn't see the sun for 40 straight days at times.

Wow. This has all the makings to be one of the more embarrassing threads I've read. Are we REALLY going to start comparing players mental health "stats" as a new form of "smack talk"? I gotta believe we're better than this. My god.

The kid wasn't happy in Bozeman. I'm sure there are many people just like him who feel the same way. What's the point in playing football if you're not happy doing it? I wish him all the best and hope he lands in a place where he succeeds on the field and is happy off of it.
If you don’t like reading or discussing the news, maybe you should take it up with the bubcat beat writer, and not your rival’s message board.

There was a bubcat troll over here just last week talking all kinds of smack based on unsubstantiated rumors from the UM locker room. Did you chastise him? No? So it’s ok for a bubcat troll to make shit up but others can’t discuss actual print media?

Mr. Flores is a bubcat groupie apologist and he had some hard-hitting and very loaded questions. No smack needed; it’s already all there in black and white. And I hope you are chastising BM too for discussing the news—they were the ones who got the shout out.
Notice I didn't "chastise" anyone specifically. That's because I used my brain. I don't know who the cowboy guy is a fan of, but his comment was ridiculous too. You don't have to agree with me. That's more than ok. If you guys want to compare kids mental health and who left what team for what reason that's your call. It's tasteless crap for the sake of "one-upping" the other team. The bad team. Good for you. Just like it's my choice to call it what it is; classless bullshit for no other reason than trying to put another kid from the wrong school down.

Sorry I triggered you so much responding to the idiotic post from the cowboy dude. :?

While I agree wholeheartedly, I'm curious why I didn't see you or bsc33 or the cowboy asshat who is too embarrassed to admit he's a cat fan call out other bobcat fans for saying very similarly moronic things when the GRIZ have had players leave for mental health reasons. And please don't tell me it never happened.

Also, that's a lot of players in the portal.

I don't care who you are a fan of. I support any player that feels they are better off somewhere else for mental health reasons. Sorry, but I do not remember those Griz posts you mentioned. I do not condone moronic comments by anyone, Cat or Griz fan, when it comes to players leaving for mental health reasons. It is a very real problem in college football.

I read the first post about the mental health article as being more about making fun of the Bobcat program (which is always welcome), and not making fun of the individual for mental health issues (which would never be welcome). But, as I've said before, I can barely read.

I think the important thing we can take from that article is the fact that he mentioned he was reading Bobcat nation posts. We all like to think what is said amongst fans never really reaches the players and so sometimes critical things are freely shared. however it is clear that what ever was being said on BCN compounded his negative mental health. That is the point being made that seemed to go over the head of the Bobcat fans responding. Bobcat fans helped make Bozeman a miserable place for him. Not good. Both fanbases should take a look and think before we post.

You are right Ray, players do read the message boards. TJ didn't say that the posts he read on Bobcat Nation were a negative. He just said he read them. There is a so far a five page thread on his transfer on Bobcat Nation. Almost all of them that mention him are positive and supportive of his decision. He had only good things to say about MSU and the team. It was Bozeman that he had a problem with. As someone mentioned, some people love it and some dislike it. The rapid changes there the last couple of years are putting more people in the latter. Also, the Spring has been cold, wet and snowy. These factors can and do wear on peoples mental health. I know a lot of people that have experienced this. He will be missed but I am glad he is pursuing going to a place where he will be happy. I wish him much success and appreciate his contribution to MSU football. It is great to see he is getting a lot of FBS major school interest. Da Boys Mom is right -on.
Uhmmmm....

the thread was almost at 4 full pages before the article was published and showed up in the thread, lil bro

No idea EG. I recall wishing one of the guys the best but can't speak for the others. Despite what some might think, I really don't read every single post on every thread. ;)

I'm not sure why the pushback on this. While I didn't quote him, I thought it was clear I was talking about the Cowboy guy who felt it was appropriate calling out the griz for losing players to mental health struggles. It's garbage.

I didn't have an issue with the prior posts because they were just citing the interview. And TJ was very clear he was happy with his team, coaches, university etc. He was unhappy in Bozeman. Why would I take offense with that? I'm unhappy with Bozeman for periods of time almost everyday. :thumb:

Finally, maybe I just have a different view on this than others. Losing a father to suicide will do that to a guy. I have a healthy respect for the rivalry. The juvenile smack talk doesn't phase me. But when guys start talking about players mental health as ammo for more meaningless smack, I think it's ridiculous. People can be mad at me for that view all they want. I'm just of the belief that some things are a bit much just for the sake of knocking the other team.

Why would I bash someone for leaving that hell hole? Au contraire mon frère, I commend the kid, his courage, and his candor.

Go back and read. I posted a day or two before the article came out that the transfers left because it was “no fun” over there. The article came out a couple days later and it basically confirmed what I thought. But instead of being lauded as Nostradamus, I get skewered like it’s off limits or taboo to talk about on a rival message board. I cited their own god damned beat writer who asked the loaded questions, and kept asking. Fuck that. They made their bed and it’s a total mess over there.

My gosh bubs are so damn sensitive. “Stop talking about me”

Missoula winters are depressing with the very short days and the Hellgate wind. But they are far shorter than the winters in Bozeman.

I am conflicted with this thread. I would believe every coach in the nation probably has something during orientation/camp, social media, etc about probably staying off sites like EGriz and Bob-Nation for just this reason?

Armchair posters on these sites can be pretty bad. However, I think it also awesome to have these sites where people can show their 'passion' and 'enthusiasm' about the team with great vigor bad or good. Most posters, really don't know what truly going on the behind the scenes, and players need to realize it. If I was player, I definitely would want to play for a passionate fanbase that has high demands. Players just need to know that most fans don't have the knowledge and pedigree for all the technical aspects of football.

Seasonal Affective Disorder:

This, combined with the realization that they are in Bozeman,.....well, y'know.

How about the 'good 'ol days, when you had the added effect of an inversion with the buildup of smog from the Teepee Burners, Hoerner-Waldorf, and all the wood stoves in the Hub of the Five Valleys, lasting for a week or two. Standing at the west end of the Oval and not being able to see the hands of the clock on Main Hall. Ah, those were the days!

Isn't it depressing enough to know you're a Cat? I mean, you start off with a pretty big disadvantage right from the start!
