Cats buyout game vs NDSU

MSU is going to make more money playing a DII at home and SMU on the road than honoring the return trip to NDSU.
Is that correct? I haven't read all of this glorious thread but a newscaster said last night that MSU has to pay the D2 $200 and NDSU $100 and will get $300 from SMU. He made it sound like, on paper, MSU will only break even in this deal. Fields was interviewed and he made it sound like money was not the main reason; instead they did this to get another THR home game (at night?) and a homecoming trip for the texas lads.

Correct, but MSU will also make money on the extra ticket sales, concessions, parking... MSU will come out ahead on the deal.

Ya gotta know how to pickem.....prefer to play SMU, who will hand them their ass(just like NDSU would have), so they can have a home game with Monmouth, mid-conference FCS team last year in a conference rated 10 out of 13 nationally, who lost 9 starting seniors on offense, and seven on defense. Whoo! Go Scats! Makes you proud to be a Montanan!

Hey Chris. Your getting your moneys worth out of this one. You and Casey staying at my house for Cat/griz again this fall?

The Griz blew this. They could have been the hero's of the country if they were willing to go to NDSU and play in place of the kittens. We have an AD and President with no gonads. This was a no lose situation. We could have easily gotten rid of the high school game and played a national contender. A few years ago this wouldn't have even been a question, we would have gone and won. Now we just want a win no matter who we are playing.

Your AD was doing his job and doing what is best for UM. It is all about the money. A home game brings in a lot of money for UM and the Missoula community. He is doing the right thing as is the Cats. There objective is much different than you as a fan. That is reality!

I think you're right on the money. Can't fault the cats for something the Griz aren't willing to do. Schools bailing out on them, or unwilling to come to Fargo, may force NDSU to the FBS. The rule of unintended consequences.

At least we don't need a money game to get our other home game ! There is no reason the cats can't play NDSU on the road and Monmouth at home , it would be a little less money in your pockets , but the right thing to do!

Fields said they needed the SMU game to generate enough money to pay Monmouth to come out here. I guess it was just the way things worked out money wise.

Oh, OK . . . so MSU should be able to pay NDSU another 100-150k on top of the guarantee to make up for the screw job and the loss NDSU takes on the deal, right? Just business I guess, even if it causes NDSU to lose another $200k and its most anticipated game of the year.

I was joking. I'm sorry ILOVETHECATS.

oh ya i know. here's something i didn't know...

did you know the cats bought out the ndsu game? i haven't heard about it yet but was hoping any ndsu fans could come and explain to me why this happened. for some reason this board seems like the best place to discuss this brand new information...
