Did anyone see at least the highlights of the bench-clearing brawl between the LA Sparks and the Detroit Shock at the end of last night's game? It all started with Detroit evoking memories of the Bad Boys with a cheap shot on LA designated dunker Candace Parker and then REALLY erupted after a series of Sparks free throws when a Shock player literally walked over a Sparks player. Somehow, former Bad Boy Rick Mahorn was involved, getting beat on from behind by a LA player. Amazing how a guy who was involved in fights almost every night as a player backpedaled from the fight after the game.
About the only bright spot in all of this is that Lisa Leslie tried to defuse it from the beginning when Parker was all for retaliating for the cheap shot that started the whole thing. This is a HUGE black eye for the WNBA. In a sense, though, it's a mark of equality with the men's game; the girls are not afraid to get down and dirty.
