Cat scratch fever smoke and mirrors

I personally think Ash can get away at this point on taking some fliers on kids. He has developed a solid reputation, and if some of those kids don't pan out, so be it. Some schools can take those risks and after playing things a bit closer to the vest, Ash was smart to trying to catch lightning in a bottle with a couple of those guys.

Really the injury/retirement thing is what baffles me. Seems like, though not necessarily the truth, like a dozen or so MSU guys have departed the program in the last year due to injuries/retirements. That hurts the depth, the overall experience.

I really thought at the beginning of last year that Ash had turned the corner to ensure consistency. Meaning the depth of the program was deep enough to deal with graduations of guys like Daly, McGhee, and so forth. I am not so sure at this point, but it might be a wait and see thing until about mid-season.

I guess I would be worried of truly how successful the offense might be. Can the defense survive the injuries, migrations and the potentially slow developing cohesiveness of the offense.

Whos gonna score for the Cats??? Or are they just gonna rely on Johnson to take 2 punts and a kickoff to the house every game?

Johnson is riding the fence on eligibility too so....

I'm most worried about WR. We pretty much have Floetketter returning, and outside of that a bunch of newbies. I think there is talent there but that remains to be seen.

Wasn't there a Kurt Davis (6'5" 220 lbs) that suffered a knee injury last year in spring ball (2013) for you guys? Any news on his return or what? He seemed to have been a pretty highly touted player before the injury.
Gone for unknown reasons. He played as a true freshman for Bobby at UNLV but came in to MSU really raw. I had a conversation at a fundraiser with an assistant coach, and everyone was surprised how little coaching he actually received at UNLV. He redshirted to develop but then tore an ACL and missed his entire junior year. He would have been a senior this year having never played a down as a Bobcat. Regardless he's no longer at MSU.

I agree CWR. WR is my biggest concern, and it's true that all the bad news we have been shoveled so far hasn't affected a single projected starter. If you guys want to smack it up over here, talk about our lack of depth. We have none.

We have solid quality depth at QB, O Line, RB, and D line. Everywhere else... sketchy.
Besides Johnson on offense your team speed on "O" is pedestrian. One wr back from last year and he is "mummy" slow... :o Expect a heavy dose of man up, press, and every blitz under the sun. I just can't see you scoring over 23 pts. a game against the top 3rd of BSC defenses...and that isn't saying a hell of a lot  Even with the dual home cupcakes .500 seems like a feat that won't come to fruition. If JJ stays upright you will finally get on a losing streak again with GRIZ... :egriz: you might get something out of Sully later in the year but...damn you're actually looking "Bad" right now.

Johnson should add to his All-American status this year as a returner. I predict he will be the single most dangerous and talked about special teamer in the whole conference. Past that, I think Brekke will make some waves this year. The kid has was the O MVP of the spring. We are bringing in a kid from UNR that Colter says will be really good, but he might end up 3rd string. Good problem to have I guess.

Can this statement be more perfect?

We are bringing in a genetic reproduction of Barry Sanders from when he was 20 years old, but we'll see if he can earn a spot.

If Ron Ash's second string is 2 times better than his first string, what the fuck can his third string do?

I can't do that high math, but I would guess that it's in the 800% range. Don't overlook the Cats in 2014. They are hungry to snag their first championship at this level. If Coach Ron Ash dips into the reserves, it's very likely to happen. The boosters from Universal Wheat Germ are already in the studio about it.

Ron Ash is one player away from securing a trip down to Texas this season. Loading up on quality 3rd stringers is what builds a championship program..

Life after Delerious? Impossible.

Actually, I'd be surprised if Prukop doesn't play better than DeNarius has the last 2 years. DM hasn't been playing up to his ability due to his injuries.

As would I. I've been saying Prukop looks like the real deal since I saw his tape as a freshman. Denarious was NOT good last year. However the rest of your squad..........lots of question marks to say the least.

Come on. If Prukop could have played better than DeNarius last year you don't think they'd have played him? And suddenly your QB play is going to be "great"?

You have a lot to learn about Bobcat Athletics.

Denarius obviously had a tremendous career for the Cats, but he was bad last year. If you have a multiple year starter at QB and a leader like McGhee you ride him out his senior year and hope he gets through the struggles/injuries. I do think 2014 Prukop will be better than 2013 McGhee. If JJ struggles this year we would not bench him, he's earned the right to play and work through it.

That's pretty much it. Also, Prukop didn't know his reads very well last year. He's a tremendous athlete that has the ability to run the spread at a high level. Apparently he's much improved and I'm expecting to see something a lot like JJ.
