Colter Nuanez predicted that not only would Brady be back for Eastern Washington; the Griz would also win. Although he didn't see the blowout happening last weekend, he is very confident that the Griz will win easily this weekend. His score prediction is 45-21 Griz. That's good enough for me.

It doesn't mean I won't be nervous. But he is anything but a Griz homer.

He's a UofM grad. :coffee:

I am well aware of that. But if a fan of either team spent any time reading what he writes or listening to what he says . . . one would be hard pressed to argue against the evidence that Colter is a realist more than anything, has covered the cats for the past few years (with bobcat beat) and has been highly critical of the Griz as well as any other Big Sky team that comes under his scrutiny.

JMHO, of course.

I’ve read this board long enough to figure out that the misspelling of names seems to be the derogatory way to put somebody else down. Is that like the 3rd grade version of bullying a kid by throwing some rolled up paper at him in the classroom to impress your friends? I don't know, seems like a weird way to put someone down.

Also seems a little silly to say the QB who leads the conference in total offense and points responsible for is "over-rated."

Whatever smashberry. Get over it. It's game week.

"smashberry" :lol:

Speaking of smashberries, how'd your mulie hunt end up?

Feeling anxious about this game, convince me as to why the Griz will win.
My thoughts
1 Msu has great offense and the griz struggle with mobile qbs.
2 msu plays better at home, even their defense.
3 msu has nothing to lose the Griz have playoff hopes
3a having nothing to lose trick plays come into the equation and Griz don't do well with them.
4 Can the offense put together Two good games in a row?????
5 How is msu rush defense? Griz have shown a little bit of a run game lately.

I really liked how the Griz came out last game and were very chippy. The personal foul on Holmes and the one on the kickoff set the tone for the asswhipping to come :thumb:

OK experts of both teams give me your opinions. Don't use stats they make you look bad lol

I'll respond point by point.

1. We have a very good offense, not sure I'd go so far as great. Too many mistakes and missed opportunities, and lack of a consistent run blocking push. Prukop is a bit hobbled right now but I expect him full strength by Saturday. He almost plays better when he isn't 100% as he seems to stay in the pocket a bit longer and turns into more of a pocket QB than a take off the first sign of daylight QB.
2. Yes, we play better at home. But SUU handled us at home. That was the first game all season I felt the offense truly lost that one for us.
3a. Senior day, they'll be some guys look to go out with a bang. Nothing to play for but pride, so the guys can play loose. But we just never match the Griz intensity in this game, at least not under Ash. Drives me crazy.
3b. We do have a fair amount of trick plays, and they have worked most of the time. Griebel broke lots of state records in CO in high school as a QB, and went to Air Force as a QB before transferring, losing out to McGhee and switching to WR.
4. The Griz offense seems to me to have been wildly inconsistent this year. That'll happen when platooning injured QBs. Good news is you're playing the 2nd worst defense in the league (EWU might actually be worse!).
5. Our rush defense is embarrassingly bad. I'd bet $50 one of your running backs gets a career high against us, it has happened about 6 times this year. We take bad angles and our LBs overpursue, gets swallowed up, RB his the cut lane hard and there is no secondary within sight because they either can't get off a block or take a terrible angle at the RB. It's actually kind of comical.

I saw that play on Holmes, he's lucky there isn't a system like soccer, cuz that's a red card, or in basketball with a flagrant. That was a cheap shot, not sure why anyone here would be applauding it.

The Cats have the ability to win this game. I'll know the outcome of the game in the first 5 minutes. If we have no fire, if the defense looks like "its usual self", and we get stuffed on a 3rd or 4th and short, it's going to be a long day.

I'll know at the prowl whether we have a chance or we get blown out. You can see it in their face whether we will win or lose.

I would not say that I applaud the cheap shot, it just really grabbed my attention that the Griz were fired up and not going to back down all day long! From the opening kickoff the Griz just seemed ready to go more so than any game all year!
Who on the cats o-line has the job of blocking Holmes and how good is he?? Or should I ask how is his ability to hold without getting penalized??

John Weidenaar. He probably only gets one sack. Cowser is a the best I've seen in a while and he only got one sack. Holmes might get bottled up. But you'll probably run some corner blitz we won't block, sooo

Future NFL player even recognizes the Griz dominance over the lil bother to the east! Jared Allen shows what Program he respects more by posting Griz/Cat, not the other way around.

The usual for me. Tag soup. Last mule deer I took was in 1994, been holding out for 200" since. Have had a few get away over the years. Looked over a lot of nice bucks last weekend but even though I packed back in to over 7000 ft the really big guys were still filtering down out of the high country. Thanks for asking though and the score updates. I try to save my phone battery in case I fall off a cliff but it's tough to do on game day.

Splooshcun*y doesn't care about Precomb's record in big games. It's all about hanging big stats in losing seasons.

The MSU guy most pissed off about the 11 game schedule? You guessed it: Coach Ron Ash. His classic Playing .500 Ball has become an impossibility. Unless you just count DI games, of course. Maybe that's what the Second Edition will be.

I think he was counting on a first round playoff loss to balance the record...blew that one.

Yeah, Ron probably did think 5 DI wins would get them in.

Great first post, I get tired of passive-aggressive posters who beat around the bush to tear someone down.

That said, FTC and Prukop.

From the numbers guy (one of them, anyway). [Current NCAA stats.]

MSU averaging 521.5 yards per game
UM averaging 428.4 ypg
Advantage: MSU by 93.1 ypg

MSU defense allows 466.1 ypg
UM defenses allows 377.4 ypg
Advantage: UM by 88.7 ypg
Pretty much a wash. (Breaking it out in terms of rushing and passing yards does not change the picture.)
Games stats – UM: 537 total yards, MSU: 503 yards. Only 34 yards different, favoring the Griz. "Pretty much a wash."
MSU score an average of 42.6 points per game
UM scores an average of 39.7 ppg
Advantage (barely): 2.9 ppg

MSU defense gives up 32.3 ppg
UM defense gives up 23.1 ppg
Advantage: UM by 9.2 ppg.
So in terms of scoring, the Griz hold about a TD advantage.
Final score: 54-35 for the Griz. Turned that 1 TD advantage into almost 3.
The Griz defense has intercepted 11 passes, and returned 2 for touchdowns. The kitties defense has intercepted 2 passes, none of them being returned for touchdowns. (Both teams have given up 10 interceptions.)
Stats were for ten games, so the Griz were averaging slight over 1 interception per, MSU quite a bit less. Each side had 1 interception, none being a pick-six. However, each side turned them into TDs because of a fairly short field.
The Griz D has had 36 sacks for 210 negative yards (total). MSU: 21 sacks for 143 negative yards
Oddly enough, the two teams have about the same Tackles For Loss (59 for the Griz, 58 for the kitties). The Griz TFLs were for a total of 280 negative yards, kitties for 244.
Again, the stats were for ten games, so the Griz averaged nearly 4 sacks per game for 21 yards, the kitties 2 per game for 14 yards. In Griz-Cat, the Griz had 2 sacks for (only) 7 yards, MSU recorded 1 for 6 yards.
Both teams had the same number of TFL (9). Those caused 30 yards lost against MSU, 18 lost by UM. Pretty much followed the season trends.
Last but not least: The Griz have had 48 penalties called against them, losing a total of 390 yards. MSU has had 69 penalties called against them, losing 609 yards. (Of course, that’s really the Big Sky refs picking on the kitties  ... but there it is.)
For Griz-cat, the Griz were penalized 8 times (versus an average of 5 per game) for 99 yards (versus an average of 39 yards per game). The kitties were flagged 13 times (vs avg of about 7) for 120 yards (vs about 61 ypg average). About what you’d expect for such an intense rivalry games: Each team ended up with about double the number of penalties and penalty yards they had averaged for the season.
How’s that?
Some very interesting similarities and differences, IMO.
