Case made again for not playing true frosh

I don't know what Chase was thinking but there is no way a 5th year senior would ever bring the ball out of the endzone, let alone have the nerve to fumble the ball after a huge hit. Strip him of his scholarship and take away his birthday.

No frosh at the FCS level is good enough as a true frosh to warrant burning his freshman season and not having him as a mature stud player as a senior. End of story!

denarius mcghee
3,163 yards
big sky offensive mvp
big sky top newcomer
national freshman of the year.

and this is from a porcelain doll that we can take to the bank won't finish the season! imagine what stronger freshman can accomplish at this level....

Seriously though Growler, I know what you're saying, but you have to play your best players, even if they are a true freshman. You never know what's going to happen in the future. Play to win now. If Chase or Holmes or whomever is the best option, then that's who you go with. I'll leave that decision to the people getting paid to make them.

ilovethecats, while i HATE sticking up for Growler, he did say "true freshman". I'm pretty sure most Bobcat fans would know McGhee redshirted at MSU before taking the reigns.

Speaking of Ty Holmes #91, true freshman. If he is as good as I think he is he may play for 3 years and jump to the NFL. Then we all would howl.

I tend to think you play these young guys right out of the box. If they are good enough in the coaches eyes then they should play. We as fans need to cringe but let them learn. Trent Mc as a red shirt frosh is good and will become much better. He is one cool dude for a young player. Naw we have some real young freshmen playing, same as App State. In a perfect setting we would not need to play freshmen but we NEED the bodies. Two more games we will see these frosh playing much much better.

ah yes. correct. my fault. although, i could find countless players in the fcs that contributed as true freshmen and were ready to play. he did say true freshmen though. my bad.

I got this all figured out...all incoming freshman football players, heck, all incoming freshman athletes to the University of Montana are now required to fulfill a 2 year mission commitment prior to being eligible to participate. This will make all University of Montana athletes bigger, stronger, and more mature than the competition. This idea is brilliant. :coffee:

what would you expect from Pickle Boy Dill who was/is as about as athletic as Dennis Murphy and the Pillsbury Doughboy

Marcus Brady - 4 year starter at CSN, 43 consecutive starts....he was alright for a frosh;-)

i'm sunny-side-up on this issue. sure, there are exceptions: mcghee and holmes are two, and there may be others. but not only is a redshirt going to contribute more his senior year than he could have as a true freshman, the added maturity is going to mean he contributes more every year he's in the system. sunny's argument is well-stated and right on, proving once again that even a thin-skinned right-wing crybaby can be right every now and then.

at least this post is funny as hell :thumb:

Notice G1 changes his stance that no FCS true freshman should play...

And then he stops responding when McGhee and Lulay are brought up as counter-arguments...

And yes I fully expect him to now show back up and make some sort of Obama reference or claim he's got more money than all of us and "we" don't deserve answers to such questions.

ya i missed the part where he said true frosh. i tend to just glance over most of growlers posts. :D

idea remains the same. some kids are ready to play as true freshman. some are ready as redshirt freshman. some never see the field even as seniors. it's dumb to treat every athlete the same because they're not.

So what you're trying to tell us is that:

1. The coaches should be making these decisions,
2. On a case-by-case basis,
3. Based on the individual facts and circumstances?

That's ridiculous!
