Candidate Profiles - Matt Lubick (UofO/Duke/ASU)

Marc Lubick is not dead, he is currently a WR coach at vandy. He did play at MSU in late 90's.

My bad, sorry about that. I had heard he had cancer a few years ago and thought someone told me that he passed. Glad to hear he is doing well and still coaching.

Matt as HC, Marc as OC...keep Green and defensive staff in tact...bring in ST coach and some other O position coaches...sounds intriguing.

I currently have this guy at the top of my list. Everything I want.

1. Great football pedigree
2. Uptempo offensive style
3. Recruiting connections to the Northwest and west coast. And with his previous experience, he would have some connections in other, new areas of the country.
4. Understands Montana and what the Griz/Cat games means to the state.
5. Experience under several programs. To the best of my knowledge, always left for a better/bigger job.
6. Young - rising star
7. Successful track record
8. Football family

Just read his Bio on the Duck web page. Seems to me he has all the credentials +. Would love to hear more from someone in the know on him.....

He's not coming here, I'd bet.

Scott Frost is rumored as one of the best fits for the Nebraska job and Lubick is suggested to then be Oregon's next OC. Way bigger payout to stay at Oregon.

Also Lubick is making $300,000 as just the WRs coach at Oregon. He's going to take that big of a pay drop to come here?

Money isn't everything.
Yes he would earn less but he'd gain the love of everyone on eGriz.*

* Until he lost his first game.

He's at $325 M from what I see. Some assistants look for their first HC job. The GSA has indicated that the total package at UM could reach $280 M.

So I looked it up, he's not making $300,000. He's making $325,000. Oregon's DC is making almost $420,000.

Could reach via incentive pay but the base is around $180,000 I think. That would be a drop of 44.6% of your annual income. I don't know about a lot of people, but I don't think I'd be able to live if my pay was cut in half - even if it was for a job that might have more "prestige" to it.

His options then are:

Take a big pay cut to be a head coach at $180,000 with incentives up to $280,000*

Or, wait and see if Frost gets hired away and get the OC job and make $420,000

Or, stay as QBs coach and make $325,000.

Seems like the safest and smartest bet is to stick with Oregon.
