Can the Griz Ground Air Force?

Holy cow what a nice finish to that first half….AF had a 10-4 lead, Griz outscored them 31-14, including an 11-2 run to end it. Hope they can keep up this level of intensity in the 2nd half….

Also, more offensive rebounds in one half than I ever remember seeing in a GAME over the past 3-4 years….

Well, I don’t know how good AF is going to end up being, but we just dominated them. After the first 8 minutes the game wasn’t close.

Air Force employed a very tough defense, forcing 16 Montana turnovers with six blocks and a lot "grabbing" disruption before Griz players could get set for shots, and several held-balls... something we're seeing more from teams nowadays. I agree with PeauxRouge: Mack Anderson had a stellar overall game, but was the key for Montana's defense with his helping D on the high post. He capped a good game off with a resounding mid-air catch-&-slam off of a missed Griz jumper. Brandon Whitney apparently re-injured his foot and left mid-second -half, but Cam Parker played a great game at point, scoring 20 points, had 5 assists and a steal, and went 9-for-9 at the free throw line when Air Force started to foul. He got NO easy looks on drives to the bucket. Josh Vazquez played his best game of the season, grabbing two steals, disrupting several passes and scoring 7 points, also perfect from the ft line at 5-5. Josh Bannan played what seemed to be a quiet game to me, until I saw the stats: a double-double with17 points on 7-for-14 from the field, with 11 rebounds, 3 assists and a block. One of Bannan's 3 turnovers was bogus because he was called for traveling after getting knocked to the floor by an AF defender. This is the perfect kind of opponent to play entering into conference play (much better than playing Yellowstone Christian). Lastly, I felt awful for Kyle Owen, who came in to the game mid first-half, immediately got a foul, got a shot blocked and rapidly turned the ball over three times... in a 4 minute span. Never got back on to the court. Robby Beasley played a solid floor game at both ends, but was dramatically off on his shot most of the second half, going 3-for-9 on the night.

Is the lack of interest in this thread/game apathy setting in or is everyone just super focused on football this week? Combination of the two?

Maybe everyone was watching the Kings beat the Magic 142-130 because, well... offense matters y'know.

Actually, I was watching the Warriors-Blazers as Curry went for the three-point record. He needed 16 to break and many thought he might get it in one night, even if that meant breaking Klay Thompson's record of 14 in one game. Alas, his first shot was an air-ball, and his third hit the rim and bounced up over the backboard. It was that kind of night. Terrible game. But I had my eye on the Gamecast of our game and was thrilled to see that Air Force score. DeCuire can go ten deep with this squad, and that's encouraging to me. I'm a big believer in a deep bench.

Ya it's football week, that's where everybody's focus is. I watched the game last night, but didn't feel like posting in the thread.

Ditto.... plus, when I post, I jinx the damn team. They play better, when I'm not live posting.

Perfect comment!

Some random thoughts:
- Our offense looked more crisp and the passing better/faster. We aren't thinking as much and the game seems to be slowing down for a few. But we're young and youth means inconsistency. I'm along the ride as they mature.
- Worried about Whitney's injury. His defense, among other things, will be hard to replace if it is serious.
- We played well on defense. Air Force plays the Princeton style. Some posters would have lost their minds, but I liked the tempo and attention to efficiency. Like in football, there is a portion that doesn't connect with a low-scoring, hard-hitting defense and needs passing, passing, passing to be entertained. Neither camp is wrong - just a preference thing.
- We went 10-man rotation tonight even before foul trouble. TD likes to go 8 deep, so this is new. Playing time will be an issue for some. Only so many minutes to go around.
- I thought Bannon was struggling a bit until I looked at stats at the end.
- Good offensive boards tonight for once.
- Good games from Anderson and Parker. Parker in particular had a great offensive game, both scoring and controlling the flow. Vasquez finally looked more comfortable/confident. Hope he is out of his slump.
- Martin, DJ, and Owens struggled tonight. Wouldn't be surprised to see them be lights out next game. It's how it is.
- Thought the refs were fairly good. Disagreed with a couple calls, and they blew the whistle a little much the final 10 minutes. But overall, I like the gray-haired ref and said so before the game started.

They are currently ranked #264 by KenPom. They might have won a bunch of games in a row coming in, but didn't beat anybody of note and didn't look that great. They have 3 guys that almost never sub out, so they don't have much depth. The Griz had a chance to put them away a cpl time, but let them hang around and AFA made it closer (they cut it to 8 pts with 5 minutes to go?) than it needed to be.
