Can our pass game and run defense dismantle Weber

Which Weber shows up will dictate more than anything else who wins the game. Is it the Weber that dismantled Sac State or the one that barely squeaked by against UND? Not to take anything away from UND, but on paper, Weber should have just run away with the game.
I do think that they will give us their best game, just as I hope the Griz will return the favor. I prefer high scoring wins by the Griz, but I think this one will be decided in the last minute with less than a touchdown difference.
But I'll be there rooting for them all the way in any event.

According to Hill’s career stats at Weber they lose most games when opponents score first. And very low winning percentage when opponents lead at end of third quarter.
Get a lead on them and they make mistakes.

Well I admire the guy's optimism.

You should just worry about your bub cats. Now Chief I don't want you to panic but it has been a month since the kittens have beaten a team with more than two wins. :? If they're not up to it this weekend, on the bright side this could add to your quality losses, or pretend it never happened like the Texas Tech game. It didn't happen if you don't count it, right?

Eh. Neither team has played anyone all year. You guys beat a Monmouth team that looks better than we thought. We beat a SEMO team that’ll be in the playoffs. We both got beat bad by the one good team we played.

Though I love this time of year where we can all scrutinize schedules despite the fact they’ll have zero bearing on what happens next Saturday! It’s fun though.

What loss didn’t we count?

I’ll take the current Griz NCAA strength of schedule rank of 15 over the Cats 106....out of 126. Means they are much more battle tested. The cats have played 2 teams now with winning records and lost to both. That’s not good.
Well I’m a bad guy to argue that stuff with cause I’ve never been keen on any SOS stats I’ve seen. So if that’s what it says that’s what it says and who am I to argue?

I don’t think the cats have played anyone tough in the fcs aside from probably Sac. Maybe I should give UND more credit, but they just didn’t look very good to me. I’m still really annoyed by that loss.

And hey, if you feel like you’ve had a battle tested lineup so far, like I said who am I to argue? I guess I just tune into games each Saturday and have never felt the griz were playing anyone awesome. Sac was good. Weber I think is very good. Maybe Davis is better than I thought? Idk.

I take a lot of it with a grain of salt because sometimes it just doesn’t matter on a Saturday. But I do look at opponent records, which can at least give us a feel for how the other teams we have played have performed. Right now that’s

Griz opponent record: 52-48

Cats opponent record: 38-59

Griz opponent record will go up to 60-50 with the Weber game and then go up again with the Cats game. I guess when going into the playoffs I want to know that my Griz have played a schedule that has tested them. I’ve seen so many teams who have a weak schedule jump into the playoffs and they are one and done. I guess that’s the only stock I put into some of it and why I pay attention to it.

Very interesting stat......last week the UND QB Ketteringham went 23-38 for 304 and 3 TDs. If there is one weak spot for the Weber D it’s their young secondary.

I love football because it’s all about match ups. The efficient passing game of the Griz matches up favorably with the Weber back end. At the same time, the Weber D leads the conference in defense scoring and only gives up 20.7 points per game. So they bend but don’t break often.

They are also a good running team sitting at 4th in conference averaging 188 per game. However that tends to play to the strength of the Griz as well as the Griz are the #2 rush defense in conference only allowing 117 per game.

In a game of match ups, there are some good things here that may help the Griz Saturday if our team can exploit and execute. That’s always the neutralizer.

:thumb:
Thanks hooked for starting a football thread. Think your point is valid. Wildcatfan has good point, also.
Will come down to how O-lines match up against D-lines and vice versa.
Griz have better QB and at home, I like Griz's chances this week, not taking anything away from Weber.

I agree! Winning the line of scrimmage, which we have tendency to do! On top of that, it’s containing Constantine. He does nothing but turn broken plays into big gains, which we’ve had a problem with. Somehow, the opposing receivers have feasted on our secondary on those plays! Scoring early and often will get the crowd into the game, and get them out of their game plan which is their running game! Maine held them to -1 yards rushing last year in the quarterfinals, and Weber still almost beat them. Constantine hasn’t played at WA Griz yet which hopefully will rattle him. Go 12th man! Go Griz!!!

Wrong. if your talking Weber, they are 2-2 against teams with 500 winning percentage or better records and msu is 1-2 with a win against semo.
I know you don't like msu, but if your going to talk smack; get the facts correct.

Don’t disagree with any of that. But we knew coming into the season the Cats schedule was easy. And for the most part I think we’ve done what we should have with it. Aside from that stupid UND game, I feel we beat the teams we were supposed to, and killed the two I knew we would.

I’ll admit Sac surprised me. Coming in I assumed our toughest games would be SEMO, Davis and the Griz. But overall we’re about where I thought we’d be.

Like I said SOS is what it says it is. I won’t argue. I think to this point we’ve played 5 teams with a winning record, 6 with a losing record. You guys have played 6 with a winning, 5 with a losing.

My biggest gripe with the SOS is you can trace it back forever. Just like the Cats haven’t played anyone based on record, you can then look at every team and see who they played. Some teams have crap records cause they played great teams. Some teams have awesome records cause they played crap teams. I’m not smart enough to figure any of that out!

I am more of a believer in SOS, than the records of opponents. But the number of wins of the best indicator, as well as the number of close losses.

Weber will not run it down Montana's throut. They will have to throw the ball to win. Even Oregon struggled to run on Montana's defense. The potential loss of Sammy Akem is tough. Mitch Roberts is a very good replacement but is more of a posession type receiver. Sammy can score every time he touches it. I like that this huge game is in Missoula. The crowd will be ampted up for this one. Go Griz!

What chu talkin about Willis? I’m talking about the bobcats to a bobcats fan. Ncaa stats has strength of schedules listed. Griz currently at 15 and Cats at 106. Thanks for being completely confused and wrong though.

You said the cats were 0-2 against teams with winning records. Incorrect.

As usual, the only ones that care about Special Team play is Bobby and me. Almost every week, this has been a big help to our team and it seems to be even more so in WaGriz. I'm sure JLM and Malik get really psyched every time they get the ball at home and the crowd starts chanting and going crazy. Blocking on kickoffs tend to get better as the year goes on as the ST gels.

Weebs does have an excellent return specialist in Rashid Shaheed https://twitter.com/missoulian/status/1195186431423066119?s=20 but overall I like Bobby's ability to outcoach anyone in this part of the game.

They’ve only played 2 teams in the conference with winning records (Sac and your mighty Sioux) and lost to both.

I will bet Coach Hill's winning record is really low when behind at the end of the 4th quarter.. Go Griz

Thank you for that insight, Mr. Madden.

Madden game plan. Lead at the end of the first quarter, third quarter, and 4th quarter. I think his plan makes us the Winner!!Go Griz

Yes, I think UM will be able to pass and will be able to stop, okay slow down, the rush. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

agreed. if they slow it down, and can pass and get a lead, Griz will be in good shape.

Can the Griz oline give Sneed time?
Can the Griz D slow down the rushing attack?
turnovers?

that's the ball game in a nutshell
That’s every game in a nutshell isn’t it?

Few keys to this game I see....

Sims needs to have his best game for us....he can ruin Webers offensive gameplan

Get up early on Weber....cant let them grind you down...get up a few scores early and they arent built to play like that..nor do they have the QB play.

Special teams...we need Flowers to give us good field position all game

When we get in the RedZone score TDs not field goals....Weber will allow you to get into the redzone....teams stall out there tho.

I don't think Bobby and Rosy are big on trick plays, but it might be time to pull a few out of the bag. This is a "whatever it takes" game.
