Campus Police Will Look at any "Criminal Component"

WTF? Someone is trying to press criminal charges on Alpha, or Vice Versa? Sorry, I won't read anything coming from the local rag sheet. If so, what kind of criminal charges are being looked into, or even possible? Was the way Alpha went about calling out this woman right? Hell no. But since when does the freedom of speech come with criminal charges (from and on either side of this)?

Let me get this straight. It is apparently okay for the woman to paint a false picture of Bobby Hauck and go to the extents she did, to possibly stop him from being employed by the U of M. Is it not okay for someone to strongly oppose her, question her motives, or how she went about doing what she has to Hauck?

Both parties were wrong in going about things the way they did. They both chose to make their opinions public. I can see them both being subject to public scrutiny, opinions, etc. No matter what I think, it is not right for either party to be subject to criminal charges, unless there were truly life changing threats or actions.

I assume that the only criminal issue would be threats. Alpha has threatened a lot of people over the years. He has been dishonest frequently. Haven't followed what he did or said that closely this time, but he's been over line the many times in the past, in my view.

This isn't a national security issue. Likely won't go anywhere other than back and forth between the two. People insult each other on social media every day.....some people even insult Hauck and call him names and put his image on a book about rape. Hrmmmm.....

The real authorities (not the campus cops) aren't going to dig any further into this than what is right in front of their face.

Why do you say that? I think various prosecutors would love to find something to fry someone like Alpha with.

This isn't going anywhere. On either side. It's a wash. Just because you say you feel like a victim doesn't mean you are in the eyes of the law. That goes for both of them.

Nope. We have better things to do than take up arguments of butthurt people on a chat forum. You know, meth, assault, child molestation. Stuff like that.

Yup. Not just on the internet but also to people's faces from what I have heard. He has crossed the line many many times. There's a level between angrily talking shit to each other on a board and making it personal and attacking/threatening someone. You can call it "snowflake" mentality or whatever, but it is NEVER ok to threaten violence on someone.

And that's just it. Pertaining to this case only he didn't threaten violence on anyone. Not that he hasn't to others in the past but he feels he's a great instigator and manipulator and tends to just say enough to stir the pot and plant some seeds of doubt to further his cause or back his opinion.

Making fun of someone's crooked teeth isn't threatening violence and what your 'heard" is simply what you "heard" unless it's proven to be fact in the eyes of the law.

Don't take this as defending Mike or justifying what he said. I'm simply generalizing. No lines were crossed.

I believe she said she FELT threatened or that she perceived what he said was a threat given the context of the whole conversation or something to that effect.

As mentioned, just because you go to the newspaper and radio station and tell them you feel like a victim doesn't mean that you are in the eyes of the law.

Respectfully disagree, not only is a threat of violence good, sometimes a good old fashioned ass whipping fixes a lot of problems. As a freshman in a high school I watched a kid who was kind of a dick to someone get their ass kicked. It made me not be an asshole for years. Think about that for a second, someone else got their ass kicked and it controlled my behavior. That’s why there are so many young people that are shitty. No one has ever shown them what could happen, and furthermore, with the instant gratification that everyone craves, you’d think it would be more popular. Both Lisa and Alpha have a learned behavior of bullying that gets them what they want with no consequences. You can say it’s not the answer or you don’t believe in it, but it is real and AN answer, not necessarily the answer.

...........

Nail, meet head. Perfectly said. Unfortunately in this case the two bullies came toe to toe and each side is calling the others bluff, because they know the tactics well.

If the Univ of MT takes an issue to the Missoula police or FBI, the authorities are going to take a look at it. This situation is bigger than "butthurt" people on a chat forum. It's on social media (Facebook, Twitter), sports forums and the print media and its comments. I'm not saying anything rose to the level of an actionable threat, as I have seen all or even much of what was said, but the person doing the threat or threats may or will have a problem if there was a true threat.

So basically you are speculating for your own motives.

Huh? Don't understand what you are saying.

Serious question. Do you have Facebook and Twitter out there in Glendive?

Wow. Attacking people from small Montana towns now, you need to leave the state.

Wow, that really was an attack, wasn't it? I grew up in eastern MT. Our ranch has been there for over 125 years, and 5 generations. One grandfather and one grandmother were Native American, so who knows how many generations we have there. And my material greatgrandparents and grandparents and mother were from eastern MT. I have a lifetime pass to comment on eastern MT.

That's really cool man. Don't know what it had to do with what I said though.

Well Alpha self-identifies as a chick, so he’s got a lifetime pass to comment on women.

I see your point but making threats is not freedom of speech. You are free to threaten somebody but then you also are free to face the consequences. Not saying that is what happened here but everybody sticking up for that asshole needs to realize he goes over the line quite often.

The campus police are real police. They are just as much police as the city of Missoula officers, sheriffs office, or the highway patrol. They all go through the police academy and are sworn peace officers of the state of Montana.
