Camp start date?

I heard Hauck said they start two weeks late. Anybody know when we start? I figured with that being our bye week could start at a normal start. We probably need the extra reps even if just in shells.

The last time we started the season with a bye we started camp a week later than everyone else. Not sure if that would still be the case or not.

There is more to this, but here is the rule from the NCAA on starting practices.

An institution shall not commence official preseason football practice sessions, for the varsity, junior varsity or freshman team, prior to the date that will permit a maximum of 40 units prior to its first scheduled intercollegiate game.
In determining the first permissible preseason practice date, an institution shall count back from its first scheduled contest, one unit for each day beginning with the opening of classes, one unit for each day classes are not in session in the week of the first scheduled intercollegiate contest and two units for each other day in the preseason practice period, except that the institution shall not count any units during the preseason when all institutional dormitories are closed, the institution’s team must leave campus, and practice is not conducted.
Sundays are excluded from the counting.
Knowing Bobby as we do, he is probably referring to two weeks late that teams playing on week 0 will be able to start two weeks early.

I must have a bad calendar... 7th is a thursday and the 3rd a Sunday?
I think I clicked on the wrong year when I was looking at that, sorry. Thanks Tex!
The rule though is 40 before the first date, excluding Sundays so that Monday sounds like the one.
Bobby so big on practice, repetitions and emphasizes that you only get better playing the game, so I know this is probably driving him crazy.

Griz report for fall camp August 7
7/28/2025 2:15:00 PM | Football

By: Montana Sports Information

Montana officially begins its quest for a 20th Big Sky Championship in early August when the Grizzlies report for the opening of the fall training camp, head coach Bobby Hauck announced Monday.

Players report back to Missoula on Thursday, Aug. 7, for two days of meetings, equipment fitting, and walk-throughs. The Griz then return to Dornblaser Field at UM's South Campus facility for the first official practice on Saturday, Aug. 9.

The first 10 practices of camp through Wednesday, Aug. 20, will be held at Dornblaser and are open to the public and media, with each set to begin at approximately 2:30 p.m. Practices on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday the following week will be held at the Riverbowl and are also open to the public.

Practices will be closed to media and public Aug. 21-22, Aug. 27, and Aug. 29. All practices are open to Quarterback Club members.

The Griz start a historic 2025 season on Saturday, Sept. 6, under the lights at Washington-Grizzly Stadium against Central Washington for the first of an FCS record eight regular season home games. Kickoff against the Wildcats is set for 6 p.m.

Montana's fall camp begins roughly a week later than usual because technically week one of the season is UM's bye. The Griz open against CWU and will play 12-straight regular season games through the annual Brawl of the Wild game on Nov. 22. Eight of those 12 games will be played at home, including six of the first seven and every game in the month of September.

The Griz will field a new-look squad this season after losing 26 players to graduation in 2024 – an unusually large class size as the remaining vestiges of pandemic-era eligibility extensions matriculated through the program.

With a robust 60 players back on the roster from last year UM is long on familiar faces but short on game experience, returning 28 lettermen and seven starters from last year's team that finished fifth on the league table at 9-5.

Hauck enters his 14th season overall leading the Grizzlies in 2025 and is the winningest coach in Big Sky Conference history with 138 wins at UM. With 79 Big Sky wins he's also got a chance to become the league's all-time leader in conference game victories this season, needing seven more to pass Jerome Sourers' career total of 85 at NAU.

Montana was picked to finish second the conference title race by media members around the league and third by the league's coaches in the Big Sky preseason polls.

Season tickets to UM's historic home slate and single game tickets are on sale now at GrizTix.com.
