Camp reports and updates here please

Who do you like so far?

I'm hoping to get some week 1 thoughts posted over the weekend. Love what I'm seeing from Wortham and Bohannon. D-line / LBs look the part and are practicing well, big re-set in those rooms but they have some real dudes there. Lawler is having a real good start to camp and Flowers progression at QB is catching some attention too. The USC D-end/LB is a beast and I do like what I'm seeing from the PSU transfer as well.

Im hoping to get out there today to check it out! Flowers had some fun moments in spring camp I recall, and seems to have a great demeanor.

As a dumbass fan I don't know the play call, the audibles at the line, and the route tree / reads the WRs are making - but from my observation Flowers has really upped his game and progressed far faster than many other younger QBs I've seen over the years.

Peyton Wing is the best LB on the team. I don’t think it’s close. Tolbert is probably second best. Probably the most athletic and talented overall LB group we have had… in a while.

DL will still be our weakness this year. There are guys that will be athletic and at times be a problem. Overall we lack the size and true inside presence to stop power run games.
Appreciate the updates. I really do. “Probably the most athletic and talented overall LB group we have had…in awhile” is a big statement. Hope you are right.

Will Flowers be the official GFP 3rd stringer who should be starting QB this year?
From what everyone talks about, he's running the offense really well. You gotta think he's third string. Bobby will give Ah Yat and Jensen most of the reps. With early season games, Flowers will probably get some second half action-depending on the score-but in the end, you gotta put the best guy out there. Very interesting to see his progression though.

I would say from my personal observation Flowers was a close second to AH YAT on the practice field. If he had some real game time experience he could be better but it would take that at the minimum. He was rotated as second string some latter in practice when I was there which is where I currently think he stands. After seeing Jensen I don't see an upside for him other than a fill in. Flowers needs to be given game experience asap in case AH YAT gets injured.

I'm not surprised. What I got from the spring game, Flowers was the best pure passer. Unfortunately, his inexperience also created a few forced passes.

Pretty easy evaluation, learn the playbook, and better take care of the ball to better your playing chances.

It looks like, he's doing just that.

Agreed, I thought Flowers looked the sharpest today. He seems to hit receivers in stride more consistently than the other QBs. On another note, Monte Gillman is lightning fast!

You are far from a dumbass fan. Nobody outside of the offensive room and film study would would know the audibles and route tree/QB/WR reads. Former players and coaches who have coached with this group may know the play calls but they won't know the game plan and install adjustments that happen during week.

Overall I will stand by this statement. Will they all play together? Idk but they are very athletic and have a good mix of speed and size. I think if you combine the DEs and LBs the defense is in a great spot. Interior DL and Safety play will be interesting to see how they develop. People forget that top caliber interior D lineman often are in the 300+ range…even at this level. What you don’t have in size you better have in passion and pursuit. In the spring we saw the interior get winded and out leveraged. I’m just making observations like any fan, but I’m skeptical that we the motors to compete with the interior OL of MSU, NDSU, SDSU, ect.

Have been to two practices so far......

Defense is fast very fast. New guys are showing that for sure, get them to click and be on the same page and they will be scary, for refrence the first thing I noticed at both practices right away was the defense is on it and more importantly side line to side line speed is there.

Oletewski aka the centaur stood out for me personally a lot as did lawler at corner, Tolbert will be a sure thing and gentry the freshman corner showed good flashes which I loved to see

O line improved alot form practice to practice and norcross brings the pain, the coaching, and the hype all in one. I think they are figuring out who is who still. Weather matan form nc state starts or not I saw a lot of sideline leadership from him and intensity.

Offense wise Wortham will be a fan fav, brooks davis is so fast and twitchy, Hendrix from Arizona st looks healthy and good. Freshman jammel ward looks good and big at 6'4

We are so deep at tight end its crazy and they all have shown great skill

Running bucks are who we thought they are a+++ but like many other have said have said hashim jones as a freshman looks and plays like the real deal, so add that to the room

Qb which everyone wants to hear about was hard to say. All had flashes but was very hard to breakdown as the defense was all over them I felt and they rotate a lot right now. Some good and some bad form everyone I don't think you can fully evaluate qb tell full pads. For my opinion wise flowers, Jensen, and ah yat are honestly all even right now

Weakest thing I saw was maybe field goal kicking. It seems shaky both practices but something easy to clean up

Fun to go watch for sure and recommend anyone that can go to the open practices they have for the public

Go Griz
