Camoflauge for EWU

I know it was a topic of conversation in College Football a few years ago with Boise State and others.....is it fair?

EWU will blend in with the field nicely against MSU. I say its absolutely an advantage. Why not if your them?

There was a proposal before the NCAA rules committee that would have required teams with a "non-traditional" turf color to wear a color that contrasted with the turf color. This of course would have affected EWU, Boise, and others. It probably got shot down because it would have also affected teams with green uniforms from wearing them when playing at home on a green field. This would have affected Oregon, PSU, Marshall, and others. I don't think the uniform color matching the turf color is a big deal. I think red turf is an abomination and am glad the Griz weren't tempted to do something similarly dumb when they recently replaced their playing surface.

No. From the players I've talked to it's not a big deal at all because the players aren't looking down onto the field. It would be a much bigger deal, advantage, if EWU painted all the "above the ground" structures, stands, etc red because then you'd actually have a problem of players blending into the background.

I really don't think it is that big of an advantage if any to the players. As a player you aren't looking down at the field, you are looking across the field to the man in front of you. You should be able to pick a player out just fine. However it does look terrible on TV, same goes for Boise State, the Blue on Blue or red on red makes it harder for the people watching on TV to distinguish player from turf. I think that is the biggest reason it's unattractive. I don't like watching games @ Eastern cause it really does make my eyes hurt and trying to find the Eastern Players while they are wearing all read gets really annoying.

You say that with such conviction. Is it possible you “played the game?”

Portland State should have to wear orange....an North Dakota blue.....and, well you get it.

With that said I do hate watching games on such turf. It's just not right and my little brain can't process the change quick enough.

I don't think it's a game changer by any means. I don't know what its like to be a QB. It just seems like it would help the Defenses cause. Then again, maybe it helps your own players stand out too.

doesn't help when watching on TV. I remember watching Boise St when they did it and I had to change the channel. too hard to find players.

I did in high school. Wasn't good enough for college though.

if we lose track of a player as a defender because their uniforms match their turf....we have bigger fish to fry.

Ha! This ^

EWU does not need camo or any other help when they play MSU this weekend. The red turf will cover the blood bath that will occur.

Be careful. There's gonna be someone out there saying that doesn't really count as playing football.

I was the starting linebacker on my high school team for three straight years but was too small to be a linebacker in college and too slow for a running back / full back spot.

While not a long career I do qualify that as having "played the game" regardless of what others would like to say. :thumb:

Well, we all know how every team that has green as a school color has just been dominating college football for as long as fields have been green.

Wait...well, one of them has, recently.
